Stressed Out, Night Out

Posted 28th April 2011 at 23:59 by Drimma

Obama just before he got into office and after - Can stress really do that to you?

I'd gone to work still feeling ill and relied on Nurofen to get thru the hum drum day but by clocking out time and with the prospect of a long weekend I felt myself getting better by the second.

I went to get a haircut for a family do the following day when the barber, a young face I went to the same with, noticed the effects of my stressful life.

"Hey you have grey hairs, why? Are you stressed?"

"I've only got the one - it's wisdom right?" I countered trying to save face in the packed barbers.

"No man, you got a few why are you stressed man? What's goin on?"

"It's Wisdom - a few …"

"Here look" he pulled out a small mirror and reflected my greying scalp before impolitely pointing and picking at it. I suffered the ill manners as best I could but was left wondering for myself just how much stressed out has my short life been to have it leave physical signposts?

On the bus home I encountered another of my sisters friend, Simone, who lives with the other I "semi-pulled" lets call her Mary. Mary despite her Christian convictions was kicking Simone out of her house. All this Simone told me in candid loud tone utterly unaffected by the other people inside the no.24.

Ignorance is bliss; I envy self unaware individuals sometimes - whilst I fret about what everyone else thinks they simply live.

Butters invited me out and I was reluctant having a low forbidding mood and just wanting the excitement of cyber space in the comfort and safety of home but I've chosen that option one too many times I think. I took to the Voddy to ease my nerves and carried some in a bottle for the ride. We were a boisterous foursome and the conversation in the car reflected this. All talk was of past conquests, which I had none and could only laugh along. Did anyone wonder of my muteness on the subject? I burrowed deeper in my bottle and by the time we were bowling the alcohol was in full effect as illustrated by several gutter balls. In the club I kept on drinking, danced with a nameless stranger and stupidly mixed my drinks switching from spirits to beer - queue a bad hangover.

I don’t know whether I made a fool of myself by the end of the night but in hindsight I'm glad I did go out despite my overreliance on the alcohol.
