Re: Triggers

I'm so sorry to hear that Azalea. It must be really hard. My mum was similar.

Re: Triggers

^ I did get past it eventually, thank you. It has been a long time since it affected me so badly. Probably compounded by work stress.

Re: How Do You Motivate Yourself?

Merry: Sounds like a non-starter. She does work but has a history of friction with (lazier but with better social skills) colleagues and has been let go twice in the past because of it.

Triggers

So, this morning I was going to enjoy a quiet hour in the garden after a tough people-intensive week at work. Next door's kids decided to play noisily, with lots of laughter and shrieking, just over...

Re: How Do You Motivate Yourself?

^ I honestly hadn't realised that she could get support for autism. She is soon to have her formal assessment but her GP is convinced.

^^ Already have shed, and greenhouse. So I'm ready!

Re: How Do You Motivate Yourself?

Thank you all. My employer does a partial retirement scheme which I will now look into more seriously, then talk to my wife about it when I have more info.

Biscuits: 'loving'. Well, I am an...

Re: How Do You Motivate Yourself?

^ Thank you. Yes, and I do keep looking. But now I'm in my late 50s and hoping to retire in the next few years if she can cope with it. If not, then I may be too old for another job and forced to...

Re: How Do You Motivate Yourself?

Fear. If I so much as mention quitting my job on the days it makes me ill then I end up talking my wife down from her resulting anxiety attack/autistic meltdown at the thought of change. Then drag...

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)

Hope you feel better soon Merry. Covid varies massively in how bad it is. I had it in April 22 and was just tired for a few days but it took 11 days to test negative again. My wife had it three...

Re: Do you love the sea?

I've never lived inland. All my homes have been within half a mile of the sea. In one case less than 100 yards. I miss it when away inland somewhere, for sure. Also, having a coast nearby gives you a...

You can't run from yourself after all.

First post in years. I thought I'd finally made progress. Got in shape, started a blog to express my sense of humour in the absence of real-life close friends. Through that I met some great people....

Re: Do you keep a diary?

I did keep a mood diary for a year during CBT at the suggestion of the therapist. It helped at the time but I really can't be bothered these days.

Re: How do you bring up feelings of loneliness?

^ Same here.

With regards the original question: Is there really anything to be gained by telling anyone you are lonely though? What do you expect to happen? They might start inviting you to...

Re: Offer to meet up with colleague?

Exactly Carbon(cylcle)fodder, and your advice was fine actually. We are not that close but have perhaps been on the line between 'acquaintance' and 'friend' for a while, I just wasn't sure which side...

Re: Offer to meet up with colleague?

Update:

Well, that was a farce. Left it until the day, hadn't seen her by 6pm so went out for something to eat. 15 minutes later she had got my room number from reception and was outside my door...

Re: Conversation

I'm very reticent in conversation. People say I don't let them in. I suspect it is because when I was growing up I was mocked and bullied by my family and at school for my geeky interests so I...

Re: Offer to meet up with colleague?

We get on well, yes.

If it happens on the day, it happens.

Part of my uncertainty is that I recently (two weeks ago) started on Citalopram after having been gradually more depressed and...

Re: Offer to meet up with colleague?

Thanks for your response Les,

She does have access to my mobile number for professional reasons anyway (in case of emergencies when I'm off site). So I will just leave it and see if we bump into...

Re: What is your Job?

I've done lab work for over 30 years, in industry and academia. My wife did 26 years in a pharmaceutical company QA lab. We both have SA but our work experiences differ.

My wife was treated...

Re: Offer to meet up with colleague?

Thank you both.
