Re: Alcohol and SA?

It's interesting to hear that alcohol does not relieve SA in a fair proportion of people. In me it kills it stone dead after maybe 4 pints or so. After that I can do pretty much anything and...

Re: I hate British 'stiff upper lip'

I disagree also.To be honest, seeing a man show some real human emotion is quite beautiful and gives me at least some hope for the human race. I'm not into people blubbing for the smallest thing, but...

Re: I hate British 'stiff upper lip'

This doesn't surprise me. Many women say they want a sensitive and caring man, yet some of them then reach for the sick bucket if he actually shows some genuine emotion.

To be honest, the women...

Re: I hate British 'stiff upper lip'

Of course, in some situations it is necessary to keep your feelings under wraps. But in society generally there seems to be a trend towards acting emotionless as much as possible regardless of the...

Re: I hate British 'stiff upper lip'

I think it's all about self-preservation and fear. People are too afraid to drop their guard. Too afraid to feel or to care. Our culture seems to prize 'being hard' far more than it does being caring...

Re: Alcohol and SA?

Absolutely! If we want to improve at anything in life it takes practice. I think it does get easier over time. Us human beings do tend to adapt if we allow ourselves the time and space to do so.
It...

Re: Alcohol and SA?

Why not? It seems relevant. A lot of people use alcohol in order to help them through such things as SA. And it can become very problematic for them in its own right.

If it's causing you problems...

Re: Alcohol and SA?

I used it to help me through SA when I was socialising.

It got me into plenty of trouble. I've made more of a knob of myself in drink than I ever have sober and SA. My health suffered and so did...

Re: I hate British 'stiff upper lip'

Personally, I prefer the Europen way.

I'd love to know just how many people have heart attacks and strokes in Britain due to bottling up their feelings and emotions to such an extent the stress...

Re: Career ideas?

I'd not even try to dispute your experience. That is yours, for better or for worse. What I would suggest is that even though things have been like that for you in the past and maybe the present,...

Re: Career ideas?

My work doesn't fit well with SA at all. It is very much centred on people and interacting with people, as was my last job in community care work. My current work in counselling is an SA nightmare,...

Re: Sports Thread

Man U and Chelsea are by far the mosted hated clubs in the land. Though I do remember the days when 'Dirty Leeds' were the most hated. I used to love them coming to Anfield in the 70' and 80'.

I...

Re: Negative thinking

This can be very effective. I know it as 'mindfulness'.

I used this as one strategy in my attempts to get over a lifetime problem with severe facial blushing. The problem with negative thinking...

Thanks. :thumbpur:

Yep, I'm not sure why my vision went the way it did. The pain was so intense that I've never felt anything like it before in my life. All I could see was white light. Eventually...

Re: blue boys

I've had it before, but never this bad.
This time around my back went as I was lifting my dog into the car. It was so painful that all I could do was slump into the car through the open door. The...

Re: blue boys

At least you only hear them moaning about being 'robbed' here on the internet. Living here in the city we (reds) have had to put up with it daily for the last thirty years.

As they say...

I look forward to it too.

The record? If they equal it they equal it. They will have deserved it so I won't be crying over it. I can always cling on to knowing that Everton will never equal our...

I can understand your fears. I really can. As time goes by it can feel even more awkward, can't it? Sort of like there was an acceptable time in which to put things right, but that time has now...

Re: blue boys

That is Everton.

It's nice to have that statistic if you are a blue, but personally I'm not overly impressed with it. It doesn't really mean much.

I mean a club can be in the top flight...
