Re: Do you really WANT friends and a social life?

Yes I do, and I have a few. But I can relate to what you're saying about "exhausting, overwhelming and traumatic". I find that's what I feel like when I first start social interactions with anyone....

Re: Anyone Tried Melatonin?

^ Good luck it does help a bit for me as I said. I can't see why they won't prescribe you melatonin, it has one of the least amount of side effects of all drugs. Or promethazine/Phernegan, as you say...

Re: Anyone Tried Melatonin?

Yeah you can't get it legally anymore, not sure they classified it specifically but I think it probably fell under the blanket ban on psychoactive substances.

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

^ Thanks and a hug for you too [emoji847], no it's not useless platitude, it's nice to receive some understanding, I think a lot of people really can't imagine what it's like but you obviously have...

Re: Anyone Tried Melatonin?

^ It does have proven efficacy which is why doctors will prescribe it. But it isn't the strongest thing you can take I agree. I also take Sleapeze/Nytol (it's the same thing, same ingredient in...

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

^ Yes I think it wouldn't have been as bad and possibly wouldn't have developed at all if OCD had been diagnosed earlier. Between the ages of 14 and 18 I spent the entire time thinking I must be...

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

^ Yes I agree on both points, it really should be taught in schools and on the BBC. Particularly seeing as how bad NHS mental health services have always been, it would help take the pressure off...

Re: Anyone Tried Melatonin?

They're not supposed to by the way, it's meant to be a prescription only medicine in the UK.

But anyhow yes I've been on it for years, it works although you have to make sure you take it at the...

Re: The vegetarian and vegan thread #2

^ Yes wraps are also really good, in fact halloumi and falafel wrap with some hummous and lettuce is pretty devine! Cancel the halloumi if vegan obviously, can replace with tofu.

Re: The vegetarian and vegan thread #2

I've stopped eating sandwiches since going mostly vegan and wholly vegetarian. To be honest if it's just vegetarian, then it depends how much you like cheese [emoji28]. Or tomatoes I guess. But...

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

Oh that's no problem don't worry about it, you have the right to argue and I can probably come across as argumentative sometimes (often without meaning to)!

Yes I remember you saying about your...

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

If some hypothesis is only tested on men then yes it's only proven on men. Studies have to actually declare their own limitations to be taken seriously, but I would agree that such limitations...

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

I'm not sure it's a technology issue but more related to the way that science is conducted on a fundamental level. They are working from the premise of unknowns. If they discover something, then...

Re: Participants needed for new Social Anxiety study

I think they can only focus on one thing at a time and with respect to autism and other mental illnesses they're probably trying to "isolate" (for want of a better word!!) social anxiety so that...

Re: Underrated or measly recognised artists

@No Longer Human I agree about JJ72, I remember them at the time they were briefly popular and even bought their album. But I think it was probably slightly before I started going to gigs so never...

Re: A list of niggly things that cause me social anxiety

I don't really have a list because I'm too lazy to make one [emoji28] but I agree about telephone calls. For me it's the fact I can't see the other person's body language. Although frankly telephone...

Re: How is everyone feeling? (31)

So do I to be honest. I know people in fairly good, stable life positions who are getting absolutely sick of this all now.

Re: Not feeling too great

Hi Dimplesxo, I can relate somewhat to what you're saying about feeling lower and lower since the Covid restrictions started in Match.

I don't think fluoxetine is a very strong anti-depressant and...

Re: Body image issues in men.

@Nanuq yeah I agree with what you say. I think the difference from 20 years ago was that people, generally women, had pressure put on them to look like celebrities. That was one level of stupidity....

Re: Body image issues in men.

^ I'm not so sure, I've seen a fair few examples of body positivists attacking NHS health advertisements, advising people to stay overweight and denying or downplaying the negative health...

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder

I think quetiapine can cause weight gain but so can most anti-depressants or "anti-psychotic" medication. It's reassuring to hear about your friend having the same issues to be honest, I was a bit...

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder

I think I'm going to have to come off of quetiapine, or at least reduce the dose, it has destroyed my short-term memory to a worrying degree. I am on other drugs too so it may be a cumulative effect...
