Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?

My latest attempt to develop a chess opening repertoire with black that stops me being mated inside 20 moves every game. Unfortunately the book is 400 pages long, so I doubt this will be the solution...

Re: Chanting Om (Aum)

Is there any difference between chanting "Om" and singing? Singing is well known to make you feel better. Is chanting "Om" just a poor man's version of having a good sing?

Re: How cynical are you?

Tembo's point about 'positivity', or 'toxic positivity' as it was termed by Sophie, is interesting but seems to be specifically aimed at politicians, which is almost a separate category as far as I'm...

Re: How cynical are you?

Like other people, I'm a bit less cynical than I used to be. I still have a default setting that looks for selfish motivations in everything I see and hear, but the older I get the more I think that...

Over the weekend I've noticed several scare stories about the anti-anxiety drug Pregabalin (brand name Lyrica in the US). The stories all have horrifying headlines about death and addiction. "Inside...

Re: Guess which SAUK-er...

Hmm, my guess, based entirely on username, was going to be The Devil, Probably, but if the suspect hasn't posted for "quite some time" then it can't be right.

Have there been any notable...

Re: What are you having for tea tonight?

Dinnertime was lunchtime when I was a kid in the 70s, hence school dinners. Then I vaguely recall it suddenly becoming a sort of class snobbery thing to have 'dinner' in the evening, but that might...

Wow! Clumsy is on fire.

OK, whoever Clumsy guesses next, that's my guess too.

Re: What are you having for tea tonight?

Pizza.

I've been on a salad diet recently in an attempt to see my toes again, so I think I deserve pizza.

Re: Guess which SAUK-er...

The mind boggles at the action this car has seen.

Who owns this love wagon?

Could it be ... Seagull?

Re: Never learnt to drive

The trouble with not driving is it limits your options. From finding jobs to finding a partner, everything is made easier if you can drive and have a car.

Re: What things are you confident to do alone?

I'm almost the opposite. Much as I like doing things with close, trusted friends, I sometimes feel I derive more pleasure from doing things alone purely because I don't have to think about the people...

Re: Guess which SAUK-er...

Could this be a fiendish double bluff and be Genovese again? I wouldn't put it past the diabolical Quizzy.

But I doubt such an alpha male as Geno would be capable of such cute teddy bears.

I...

Breakfast? It looks radioactive. Probably glows in the dark. I'm not even sure what the yellow thing is. Some sort of McDonalds omelette perhaps? Personally, I wouldn't go near it without a hazmat...
