Re: Your "miracle" drug
I thought Mirtazapine was my "miracle drug"!
when i first started taking it i was away out every day down the town centre without any anxiety or dizziness. i even went train hopping all the way down to London and had a great laugh, but the effects seemed to wear off after a month or so, which is strange because its not a benzo or addictive! |

Zoloft has helped my anxiety slightly but not my social anxiety.

Re: Your "miracle" drug
I'm taking a combination of Propranolol (2 x 10mg daily) and Cipralex (5mg daily).
It's very effective! Propranolol slows my heart rate, while the Cipralex keeps me in a generally happy mood. Obviously it's not perfect, and I still get bad days, but overall this combination seems to work well, most of the time. |

Re: Your "miracle" drug
This is not a answer to your poll but can i input the following.
I can't argue that a cause of problems could be brain chemistry and would be more balanced on drugs. That said in general I think meds can help you build the foundations of a bridge, but you still have to cross it yourself; through hard work and determination we can all teach ourselves to think and react differently and ultimately get more out of our lives. I found venifaxine(Out of about 8 anti Ds) a little helpful on the side of exposure and challenging negative believing and thinking but nothing I couldn't have done without. No doubt your all smart enough to know yourself that no person or drug is going to come along and do it for you. Just wanted to reinforce quotations to discourage just vegetating until a miracle happens. |

Re: Your "miracle" drug
Partly for me my miracle drug is the ones released naturally by excercising and being outdoors, not sure if that counts. Even just a brisk 20 minute walk 4-5 times a week helps.

Me too. Tried Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Escitalopram, Citalopram. None of them worked as well as Seroxat. Found it a bit tough to come off though. The best for anxiety / SA I've tried is diazepam (not tried Klonopin or Xanax), however I keep them for particularly bad days. The last GP I saw said the next pack needs to last me 10 years. No more would be forthcoming. |

Re: Your "miracle" drug
I've never taken any medication before. Or even seen a GP about it.
My current situation is that whilst my symptoms aren't that severe in most social situations bar talking to girls and parties, SA is really bringing me down at the moment having more and more sleepless nights and feeling very down about it. Would I still be prescribed something? |

Re: Your "miracle" drug
Nothing prescribed has ever worked. I tried something illegal once. Completely blew the head off SA for the duration it was in my system! I felt like I'd stepped into another world!
The downside to this was it wears off and I had to be me again |

Re: Your "miracle" drug
Have tried pretty much all SSRIs over the years prescribed for depression as my anxiety has never been taken seriously. Was on venlafaxine for about 6 years which helped but didn't stop the depression and anxiety, just made it tolerable most of the time. But things got so bad last year that I asked to try something else and am now on Duloxetine but too early yet to see if its working, only started about 2 months ago and no miracle yet.
Mirtazapine is pretty good as a night time sedative but I can't take it every day as the sedative effect wears off after a month or so and it has caused massive weight gain in the past when I went from under 9 stone to 11 St 3 in 6 months until I realised what was causing it, it gave me bad carbohydrate cravings at bedtime and I used to stuff myself silly bit then was lethargic and tired all day so just staying in bed or on settee. But it is one of the quickest acting anti depressants so I do still take it every 2 or 3 nights to get a good nights sleep. I've also been prescribed promethezine for anxiety but again apparently you can develop a tolerance to that when taken regularly so I only take that every 2 or 3 days too, and although that helps with sleep, I haven't noticed it helping much with anxiety. I have occasionally been given Lorazepam for panic attacks and 1 mg of that is a wonder drug, my problems and worries are still there but somehow I don't care about them when I've taken it, but they will only give me 4 tabs at a time and only occasionally as its a benzo and therefore addictive. Smoking weed also helps but although I smoke it regularly (most days if I can get some which is difficult), I only use a small amount compared to most people, it helps me sleep and just takes the edge off my anxiety. But I'm worried about the new drug driving law so am trying not to smoke during the day, as because of where I live, I need to be able to drive to get to shops, GP etc. Exercise helps a lot to lift my mood so at the moment I'm trying really hard to walk my dogs every day but its really difficult as some days I just don't have any energy and can't get dressed. |
