saw this crap on BBC website and have no idea what on earth it's about or even why people appear to have become interested in whether a particular sound sounds like one thing or another

seems like an invented media story for saps

I heard the word Laurel. Intriguing! Very, very, very intriguing! Now I know what I heard. That cannot be disputed. In fact, there isn’t an ear doctor in the world who can tell me otherwise. And yet there is that other word. That word that other people say they can hear and yet I am unable to hear. Intriguing! Very, very, very intriguing! Well kind of intriguing I suppose. Then again, maybe there is a deeper meaning as to why some people are hearing one word over the other. Intriguing! Very, very, very intriguing!

I also want to say that I’m liking the word Intriguing today. No idea why, but I guess it's intriguing as to why I’m liking the word intriguing today. Which I might add is intriguing! Very, very, very intriguing!

I can hear the word ‘Yanny’ (sort of) and my husband and son could hear that word too, but we couldn't hear ‘Laurel’. So what’s that all mean? That our ears are more sensitive to picking up higher pitched sounds? Intriguing - not

It's hurting my brain trying to figure out how anyone's hearing Yanny.

What does it sound like? Yan-ee or Yar-nee?

The bizarre thing is that the *first* time I heard it I thought it said both at the same time, but every time since it's Laurel. The neuroscientists are interested in that phenomenon.

Does everyone who hears (the imaginary) Laurel hear at a low register?

Because I really don't hear it at all.

If you hear Laurel it's because you are not of pure blood. Only those who hear yanny are descended from the Origional Great and True Yanny and will be saved. Soz.

I think Laurelens are probably all going to hell. sad for you.

^ The Ls were so strong when I first listened that I couldn't understand how anyone could hear anything other than Laurel.

Now I'm hearing Laurel again and so am of the opinion that someone's changing the video to drive me to insanity.

Ok that's ****ing weird. I listened to it again and happened to focus on the words on the screen as well.
When the words changed from Yanny to Laurel I started immediately hearing Laurel. Listened for a third time and now I can't hear Yanny (or in my case Yammy) at all - even following the words.

Ohhh. I turned the radio on the other Day and someone was repeatedly saying Laurel and I couldn't understand why.

Reading the title of the thread has influenced me and all I hear is Yanny now. So with that in mind I've worked out how I can now control it.

If I mouth 'laurel' repeatedly whilst listening then I hear Laurel.

If I mouth' Yanny' repeatedly whilst listening then I hear Yanny.

Can anyone else control it by doing this?

That's not the one I first heard. That's the one I heard when they showed how it was done, so on the ''actual'' one I heard yarry. Older people hear laurel and younger yanny. (yammy/yarry) if you're hearing yanny on the vid above then you probably have hearing better than a dog

****, now it's Laurel! Though I was lying down before and now sitting up, don't know if that could have made a difference. Also, when it was yanny there was a sort of clicking between the words which I can't hear anymore?

Edit: Now Yanny's back.
