Default How would you prefer to make yourself ill?

This is silly really so don't take it too seriously.

Hypothetically if you wanted to avoid something or didn't want to go to work but wanted to tell the truth when you said you were ill which of these would you be inclined to do to make yourself ill?

A) Eat something really nasty that you know will give you an upset stomach

B) Stand outside in the rain for half an hour with no coat on

C) Throw youself down the stairs

I think I'd be more inclined to stand in the rain because I hate having stomach upsets and I'd be too miuch of a coward to throw myself down the stairs.

I have a genuine cold at the moment but worry that they don't believe me when I ring in sick. I feel guilty for letting them down even though I am genuinely poorly especially as they were depending on me to do the late shift tonight.

I'd probably go down the upset stomach route. Quick and easy with no lasting ill effects

Other. I'm usually pretty good at making myself ill simply through will power, hypochondria or just stress.

That's because getting a cold from the cold is an old wives tale. The only things you can get is pneumonia or hypothermia I think. Neither of which I think anyone would want. I think I'm being too serious...

I've voted A) but in actual fact I wouldn't actually eat something to make me ill

When I was working I over used the sickness and diorea excuse (can't spell it) to massive degrees. One time I even said I'd got lost on a walking holiday hence my day late in arriving back at work! Those were the days... and how I hated them lol. Oh I dread the day when it all has to happen again.

By the way... I saw on the news tonight that flu is extremely potent and at a higher percentage this year, so just stick with flu and you should be ok.

I alway thought this too until: http://www.medpagetoday.com/Infectio...URItheFlu/2136

I would lie, but I think I sometime develop real ilnesses if there is something I am dreading.
I try now to go to whatever it is even if I am unwell, so as not to encourage my inner sickley person.

I can't imagine doing any of them deliberately, but I think the nervy not entirely happy with my decision type thing would probably make me feel under the weather .

I know what you mean, and dipping feet in iced water is quite extreme chilling.
I suppose I am swayed because it supports an old wives tale, and I think those old wives did know a thing or two.
We will hold judgment till a larger study is done, in the mean time I have put on an extra pair of socks.

Oh I agree "old wives did know a thing or two" maybe also some young ones... I've always got cold feet when it is cold (low blood pressure) and don't have more than my fair share of colds. Those Icelandic peeps must be a sickly lot.

There is truth in the old wives' tale. I have caught a cold after being caught out in the rain.

That would be a Post-hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy right!?
meaning, A happened (rain) then B happened (cold), therefore A caused B.

I think it is more likely that going out in the rain and making yourself cold and wet is likely to weaken your immune system and increase the chance of suffering a cold.

But there is only one way to get a cold, and that is to be infected by someone else who has it.

And by the way, No, I would never intentionally make myself ill or injured as that seems stupid to me. why would I want to make myself ill?????
BTW, I am still recovering from flu, I had a 102 temp on sunday and my skin has hurt really bad for 3 days. Whats with that!?

Proof indeed.

I wonder if anyone has had a cold shortly after having a wank?

I've never heard of this...

But sometimes the causes of skin that feels very tender or sore to the touch are not quite so clear. For example, it might surprise you to know that your skin can get the flu. Oddly enough, viral infections of almost any kind (respiratory or intestinal) can actually make your skin hurt, along with bringing aches to your muscles and bones.
