I don't think that SAUK & other forums will fade away.
Facebook will fade away first. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
Yes- but it's applicable to most forums not just here. I'm the kind to make threads which often very few people reply to . I feel like I'm standing outside the inner circle on most forums. It's obviously something very dysfunctional with me, but I haven't a clue what it is and how to change it.
I am on a few FB mental health groups but hardly post on them. In fact I haven't done for quite a few months. As for making friends, using a football analogy I'm strictly in the relegation zone. The best I do is very occasionally start emailing with someone but they soon get bored/fed up with me. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
Firemonkey, a lot of your threads have links attached, so we read them, they're all interesting.
The links sum up your threads, so it makes it difficult to reply. I hope that makes sense. Keep up the good work Sir. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
Facebook might make billions, but it's quality that counts, not quantity.
I've donated money to the forum, twice I think. It doesn't cost much to keep this forum running. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
^ I'm the same, even though I don't post a great deal these days and don't have much contact with anyone here, this place feels like my online home. It's comforting to just be here. It can feel like an unhelpful crutch sometimes, but the fact that I can post here at all is something I try to appreciate and value. I spend an awful lot of time on Twitch.tv, but never speak in the chatrooms, and keep up with people on Twitter without ever actually saying a word to them. That sort of thing feels worse in a way, that kind of passive social exposure where I get the comfort of spending time with people, without having to make myself known in any way. It's safe but very unfulfilling.
It's hard to fit in anywhere nowadays. Either a place is so busy anything you say gets immediately drowned out, or it's too close-knit and you feel like you won't earn a place unless you have something valuable to offer, which I don't believe I have, so I don't even try. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
I often feel like a bit of an outsider wherever I am sadly. At least here there are people with their own problems, all be it a little bit different than the next persons. I think online communities are brilliant places to learn about a particular thing. People are eager to chip in with there own experiences and knowledge in a given area. We all have dealt with mental health of some kind, but each of us is going to have our own set of issues and particular circumstances. Hopefully there will be some people who have been more successful than others and they will hopefully share their point of view, and in doing that will feel like a valued member. I think the contribution you make to a community is worth more than your post number generally.

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
I imagine I'm talking to people, I don't know who reads or takes an interest though, it's like having imaginary friends based on real life people sometimes...

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
Yes and then I wonder if it's me or if it's just that no one knows how or what to reply with. It's a difficult one but I guess it does help to still write stuff on here as I don't really tell anyone else away from here anything.

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
I think I have a way of killing a thread flat, sometimes I get a response..from a few folk anyway I do think sometimes it looks like I just get ignored and I might as well be talking to myself but everyones got problems here so I can't really expect mine to take priority or anything.
It is quite worrying how dead this forum is though, compared to when I used to post here like 3-4 years ago, I barely recognize any names..does that mean everyone's fixed and buggered off? why am I still here! |

Let me simply say...its an SA site.
When people make friends here they tend to stay friends. Its genuinely nothing personal |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
I think forums mostly a distant/indirect way of communication. And mostly no rewards for it, unless you live close to others. Its just a occupyment of time for the most part.
I do like your posts Between the Bars though. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
Look at the response you’re getting in this thread Between The Bars – you’re not just talking to yourself this time! It’s a very good question though and I think I can see how you might feel this way. I think there are many like me who browse but don’t contribute a lot. Many times I’ll read posts on this forum that express issues or offer advice or make comments so much better than I can. I often feel I have nothing to contribute, even anonymously, and I just silently nod in total agreement with what I’m reading. I also realise that I’m now in a much better place than many fellow SA sufferers who use this forum and so I feel a wee bit like an imposter at times, someone who is not really in touch any more. Anyway, I enjoy your posts. You’re not talking to yourself – there are probably a lot of silent or very quiet listeners out there. I'll slink back into my wee corner now that I've said ma piece, aye.

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
I probably haven't made enough effort on here in recent years to be part of the SAUK fabric. A few years ago I probably did.
It hasn't put me off posting here. I treat this place almost like a blog though, just posting random bits here and there. Any interaction with the members is a bonus lol |

I wasn't even aware that there are "cliques" on this forum. Shows how much of an outsider I must be. As usual oblivious to everything!

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
Yes! Absolutely! I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Perhaps there is an element of confession. Tbh I've always LOVED that element of forums. Yes, Facebook and social media have definintely ruined some other forums I used to be on. It happened instantly within a year on one forum. Sucked. Facebook ruined the internet! Boo! I'm not on Facebook, too paranoid. Also, I want to talk about stuff on here I don't want to talk about on social media with people I know in real life. Yikes. No thanks. If social media had existed when I was a teenager, I would have all this embarrassing teenage drivel all over the internet under my name and face. Thank God I'm too old. I didn't realise there were cliques on here either! I've noticed that some people know each other outside of SAUK but that's it. People who say they are talking to themselves on here, you are people whose posts I've probably sagely nodded at or chuckled at ... but then not responded to. Sorry. |

Re: Do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself on here?
I don't get the sense it's clichey but it's a bit rude if you ask a question and it's left hanging or people respond to every post except yours, mind you, if they did respond to mine I would agonise over what to reply or to reply at all.
