Default SAUK phone app

I could've sworn I read someone on here say they use an app on their android phone to use the site, is there an app to access the site easily on an android phone?

The only tapatalk app my phone offered me was one you had to pay for, but that was some time ago. I think SAUK can work on making a functional mobile website version like SAS has done. But then I don't find much problems using the desktop site on my phone.

You can change the font size in browser settings and zooming only requires a double tap.

Just requires the admins to put in a decent stylesheet for small screens and set it as the default for mobile browsers (some mobile browsers, e.g. Opera, reorganise the page automatically, which is usually good enough, though it breaks some sites). Having special apps for such trivial things is pointless.

Yeah I use opera, but its still very fiddly when it comes to navigating the site and embedding photos smileys etc.

^They can improve the site interface for phones imo. Apps usually work better than sites but I think they should look at making websites for mobiles more functional like apps. Cause apps take up memory.

I use my iphone on here a fair bit and never have too much of an issue. I hate it when sites (wiki) changes the page to "mobile" without asking me.

^I'm guessing cause mobile sites usually compromise, but mobile sites are much quickly and easier to use.

Most of those types of apps are usually nothing more than HTML5 pages generated on the phone, though (with a bit of AJAX to some web-based API to send/fetch the necessary data in JSON or XML so that the app can actually do something other than show static pages), and actually, some of them are completely server-side even, in which case the app is basically a web browser that can only visit one site. They aren't using any kind of native functionality.

It wouldn't be difficult to provide exactly the same experience in a web browser and do away with pointless apps, but companies like to provide an app anyway because it's just another bit of marketing for them to have one (plus, forcing users to use locked down apps instead of their own web browsers is a marketers wet dream, as they won't have to worry about them using some add-on to block all the ads).

I kind of actually agree. The apps I've gotten are free, how do these free sites make money?

Tapatalk is good for quickly browsing and finding new forums (almost like a Spotify of discussion), but I didn't enjoy the way it laid things out on the page. That and after buying it for the iphone they were telling me I had to buy it again to get Tapatalk HD on the ipad. >.>

Those kinds of practices put me off it.

Most free apps are full of ads, aren't they? If so, from those. Hence why they prefer giving people apps instead of proper sites, so that the ads can't be easily blocked.

Indeed, you have to pay to have no ads. Apps usually still work very good for the phone though and are also fast but I cant see why sites cant be made to be more like them.

I hate really annoying apps that phrase pop-up notifications in a way intended to confuse and get you to accidentally pay.
