Do you think? It was certainly a shock. It sounded so simple.

Still mortified!

No need to feel embarrassed Theo; I doubt anyone in Club 30-81 is judging you.

You could use the "Preview Post" button though if you want to practice till you get it right.

moving swiftly on again.........

Trolleys? go carts? whatever

my brothers used to scour the dumps in the area for pramwheels - and make their own trolleys. They used to spend all day on them and customize them etc.. Ill nver forget the fun we had - racing down the hill ----- and really hope nothing was coming up.

I never had a pram of my own(for my dolls) - I had to share one with my sister - - you had to be quick though else before you knew it the boys would start asking if youd finish play ing with it - because they were hoping to make another go-kart.

Those were the days ...

Since we're on the subject of bicycles, here's the banana-seat "Stingray", my first set of wheels.

That's kind of you but I can't believe I could mismanage such a seemingly simple thing. Left it on there for a laugh. For a moment thought I had copied the entire thread. I even managed to get my comments in the quotation slots. I will use the preview button - oh god!

Cheers

I lost my first hopper popper down the drain.

Fart gas smelt like tonsil stones.

I loved the smell from cap gun ammo.

What the hell has happened to the world??
I usually can chat away to one of my neighbours any time I see them,..

the others are usually just a few friendly words as we pass,..

it probably just depends on the area you live in,..

ironically,.. I find that the more 'working-class' and area is, the more friendly the people are,.
and the more 'upper-class' an area is, the less people seem to have time for pleasanteries.

These vaporizers are collectable on Ebay now.

Health shops still sell all sorts of coal tar products - soaps, shampoos, ointments, creams, etc.
Vic on the chest. For us girls, the liberty bodice with covered buttons. Cod liver oil... Ho, what joys they were!

Fortunately, I escaped the joys of cod liver oil, but often had Linctus to cure a tickly cough - it tasted really horrible.

The Linctus cough mixtures they sell these days aren't the same - they have added flavourings like strawberry to make them taste much nicer.

Gargling with salt and inhaling steam from a bowl with a towel over your head were a couple more of my mother's favourite cold remedies.
Mine too - the Linctus was quite effective, though. Inhaling steam is promoted by the NHS.

Do you remember how covering up mirrors was a necessary precaution against lightening. I woke up on one occasion to see my 'kidney shaped' dressing table drapped in a white sheet and thought it was a ghost. The scream must have carried throughout the village. 'Birds and bees' were never discussed below the age of 10! The age of innocence. Although when a half-baked version was given to me at 10, I felt my world had been tainted and was very upset and demanded to of my mother (although she hadn't polluted my mind) if my father had jumped on her back like a bull. So perhaps it better that children are prepared earlier and more intelligently.

When you could only buy stockings and sometimes relied on the odd penny to keep them up?

Glad you missed that Tamara. Tights gave you great freedom after buttons flying off suspender belts, believe you me. (Hence the penny - although the loo was a penny in those days.)

I think I remember making an apron and certainly domestic science. I was regulated to cleaning the glass doors in said room. Thank god for microwaves! Tell what is relaxing about cooking?

Does anyone who grew up in the countryside remember picking flowers for the May Garland, which was taken around on 1 May?

Best Teo

Do they play Oranges and Lemons and Put the Tail on the Donkey, do you think?

You have an Aga? Lucky you. I would love to have a bath in front of an open fire or Aga. My house is so soulless. Mind you, it seems my beloved microwave might have to take second place.
