Question Advice needed please!

Hi everyone,

I have just joined and this is my first post. I have suffered from severe blushing episodes for as long as i can remember and now i rarely leave the house and avoid socialising with anyone, even my friends.

I am taking the first step iin getting some help by going to see my my GP tomorrow.......I'm terrifired!!!! How am i going to tell her about my problem???

I was wondering if anyone could perhaps tell me how they went about first getting help and how they felt about it?

Thank you.

ah welcome.
Well when i first went to the docs about it i denied it all (i know i dont have the blushes thing), but then i went back and im getting help for it... it will feel awkward on the first visit, just remember its ok to feel scared about it but you can also feel a sense of relief because youre doing something about it
docs will help you out, just try to explain it the best you can.

If you are feeling really nervous about and youre worried you might not be able to make yourself clear, maybe writing a letter and bring it with you would be a good idea.

I know no matter how carefully i plan what i am going to say people always seem to be able to interrupt me and get me sidetracked so i forget half of the things i was going to say. A letter might help this if you are worried.

Welcome to the site. I hope you find lots of support here. I have found doctors to be very understanding and helpful. My one piece of advice would be to write down how you feel and list your symptoms before you go and take it with you. I tend to clam up, forget what I want to say so this really helps. I hope it goes ok for you. x

Basically thats all you need to tell the doctor . also say something like " I feel I need to be reffered for therapy as it is affecting my life . "
Try to get over the fact that it is serious and youre not just a little bit shy.
try to avoid him fobbing you off just with tablets for depression.
MOST doctors will take you perfectly seriously . A very few will not . In that case it would be in your rights to go and ask another doctor.

Thank you

I just dreaded that I wouldn't be taken seriously!

I know i will still be rediculously nervous and go flourescent pink, etc...
I feel sick that i have to walk back through all the people in the waiting room after with my bright red face.

But I know seeing my GP is for the best.
I'll deffo be back on here to tell you guys how it went. x

I was terrified - in fact I took my husband with me to do the talking! It felt awful - I got emotional - and change hasn't been exactly quick but it will help!!! Good Luck

Hi, sound very similiar to me, blushing all the time, but ive got a very understanding GP, she actually recommended me to write everything down i wanted to discuss it really helps, and when i get tongue tied and cant get my words out she just goes through the list with me, i still go bright red but am learning to ignore it, i hope youve got a great GP like mine good luck! The Prisoner

just remember that people do not read into your red face as much as you think . Even tho some heartless people might joke about it.
For example if youre red in the waiting room people will just think youre hot.
