Thanks Atrophy and MiffyKoala.
I checked with the pharmacy today and they said the side effects can last up to two weeks while my body adjusts even though I was on the 10mg before. Am still feeling the same today, but less vertigo problems. I have a follow up appointment with my pysch on the 7th so hopefully things will be ok by then, if not I will ask about Sertraline.

Hi, all.
I have just been prescribed Cipralex and am pretty nervous about taking it now reading all the comments about the side effects. It's good to know though. I was wondering has anyone taken this with Lorazepam as I was prescribed that too to take at the same time. Any advice on this?
Thanks

I was on Cipralex 10mg for a few months.. didn't get any side effects, no real benefits.

A month ago I was moved onto 20mg, and for the first few weeks I felt I could vomit any moment, I had headaches (I'd never had a headache before, always migraines), and I couldn't stay awake for more than around 7 hours a day.

This last week, all symptoms but the sleepiness have gone.
Well.. today has been a massive improvment. I woke up at 6am, and at 5:24pm I'm still awake.

I do feel a lot better it terms of SA and depression on these, and the chronic fatigue has reduced considerably.
For a change, I have a sense of optimism

Not as crazy as you may think. I have been on cipralex for the past two months. 20mg per day every day. Weeks 1-3 was hell on earth. Suicidal, insomnia, hot sweats, and sheer panic. Week 4- present - fully alert able to sleep no more panic attacks and the depression has moved on. i have been on cloud nine and possibly above. i smile a lot and feel happy. This has scrared my collegues at work (im usually a grunt) and to top it all off my Libido has hit the roof.!!!!!!!!

The only side effects that have remained is acne ( minor - arms, back, chest and legs) and dry brittle hair which i am now losing.

Doctor has been good but hasnt supported my views that Cipralex has and continues to be cause of the hair loss. Like most doctors he put it down to the onset of male pattern baldness.

I intend to stay on cipralex( acne/hair or no acne/hair) for as long as i feel great. Having suffered from major depression and anxiety all of my life ( very young to now not so young) and this has been the only AD that has worked for me.

Dont give up, ride the storm and i hope a new world will open up for you as it has for me. For those men/women who read this post you should be aware that this drug like all drugs affects people differently some people have no or little side effects and for others the opposite is true. What is important is that you trust the advice of your doctor and give it a try and if you too many side effects then talk to your doctor. about reducing your dosage or changing medication.

After all if you dont try you will never know.

wishing you all well

Its good hearing that these have helped people. My doc was gonna give me Citalopram last week and I decided against it as I took it years back and never felt it helped, though others did.

I think I'm gonna go back and ask for Cipralex instead as I am very depressed at the mo, Ive given up on trying to help myself as I just make myself worse. I've always been a bit against meds after bad experiences with Seroxat and Effexor, but I think it's worth a try.

Edit: just read about the libido loss, thats such a shame. not that im getting any or have much chance, but you know, you need some enjoyment whether alone or in company lol.

Is sleepyness caused by the cipralex temporary? i can barely get out of bed. ive just finished my final exams in college thankfully the effect came just after them.

Hi, just thought i'd share my experience of Cipralex. I've been taking it for 3 weeks so far and I haven't noticed any change whatsoever. The only side effect is that I have sweaty hands and feet! Not normally a huge problem but today I went for an interview and had to shake quite a few hands! Ew.

I'd heard a few people mention Cipralex on this site so that's why I asked my doctor to put me on them. Some people have commented that they noticed an improvement after 2 weeks but as I have said above, I have noticed no change so far. I wonder if mainly people who are depressed notice a difference in the first few weeks but it takes longer to have any affect on anxiety symptoms? I'm not depressed at all thank god. I'll continue on the 10mg for another 3-6 weeks and if there is no change I may have to consider alternative medication.

Tomorrow's the weekend! Yipppeee!!! Stace xx

Hi everybody, I started to take Cipralex 4 days ago and was looking forward to the happy pills, well, making me happy. Then i read this thread now i'm panicking about all the side effects mentioned here, because i live in Spain the leaflet is in spanish so didn't know about the side effects. Saying that at the moment i haven't had any problems but as i say it's only my 4th day. I do have a couple of questions though:

If i do get any of the side effects (which i 'm praying i don't) after how many days will i start feeling the effects of the medication?

And when is the best time to take them? As the chemist said in the morning with food? Some people have posted on here say morning, lunchtime evening and before you go to bed.

Even though i'm a little freaked about the possible side effects it's nice to find this forum and know there are people out there who care and can give good advice.

I will update periodically and let everybody know how i'm getting on.

I was recommended Cipralex because of it having less side effects than other meds! That's can't really be true though because it's different for everyone. I can't remember if it gave me insomnia at the start but these days it makes me want to sleep all the time.

Interesting that you mention wanting to sleep all the time cavedin, I am like that but I have always put it down to my personality and wanting to hide away. However, I have been on Cipralex for 4 years now, and over the past 15 years I have been on and off medication for depression. My GP has concluded it is likely I will always need a dose of something, as whenever I attempt to come off completely, within 8 weeks, I have a crash, and the whole cycle of trying to get better starts again. Last time it resulted in 2 months off work and a phobia of going out so I have finally realised that meds once a day is worth it to retain my ability to function and go to work, even if I am never really one for socialising. I am currently on 20mg of Cipralex, but have been as low as 5mg in the past. At the moment, the thought of reducing the dose is terrifying, so whenever the GP mentions it, I decline!
