Default Bands you have seen live

I've barely seen any bands. I don't know, call me a music lover? I spent most of my life at orchestral concerts and chamber recitals. But I have seen:

Pet Shop Boys
Bob Dylan
Primus
Bellowhead
Brian Wilson (of Beach Boys fame)

A band I really regret never getting to see live before they split up are Sonic Youth, although I did see Lee Ranaldo live once doing some solo stuff.

How about you?

Little Mix
One Republic

I've seen more solo artists than bands. Apologies if I have horrified anyone by calling Little Mix a band

Yes, bands or solo acts! I put Bob Dylan so solo acts are ok.

Percy, is there a band you would have liked to have seen that you never had the opportunity to?

The Devil, Probably - stand up shows are fun, provided I sit well at the back!

According to my Last.fm profile I've attended 68 events - this doesn't include bands I saw as a teenager in the late 90s/early 00s (mostly local acts, most of which I've forgotten!), but which would push the total up to easily 100+ gigs.

My first was the Dandy Warhols at Portsmouth Pyramids in 1998.

The best live band I've seen? Probably The Magnetic Fields, seen 'em four times now. 😎

The Primitives are a top-notch live band with many, many great tunes other than their well-known one, Crash. I've seen them (I think) four times also.

I saw an elderly Neil Sedaka many moons ago because he was performing at a place just up the road from me and I was going through a phase of liking cheesy 60's ballads. Around that time, I also went to see an elderly Gerry Marsden from Gerry and the Pacemakers. When I say elderly they were probably only in their 50's or something but it seemed really old to me at the time. Anyway, do they count?

I wish I'd been able to attend some of the gigs that people here went to see but my social anxieties proved to be a major obstacle plus there was the fact that I didn't have anyone to go with. I do feel like I missed out

I've only ever seen Barry Manilow live. I think about 7 times over the years. So my gig experiences are somewhat limited. In that it's just one artist. As well as the limited experience of being a part of just one gig fan base. But it's still a great fan base to be a part of. And to describe the experience of a Barry gig, it's like being in a sea of estrogen. Although occasionally you do see a few droplets of testosterone in the crowd. But you could sometimes tell if those droplets were there under duress. Especially if you looked really closely and you realised they had a sort of hostage look about them. But I loved it! I was singing along with everyone else at these concerts! But in a kind of reserved way. Whereas some of Barry's fans can get quite passionate! So I was never able to transition from politely saying “Bravo Barry” to then scream “I really wanna do it with you, Barry!!!!!” Although if I attended more gigs, then maybe I can bridge that gap.

Anyway, I hope the members don't mind, but it would be nice if I posted a Barry song. Which is also one my favourite Barry songs. Although I'm not entirely sure why I like this song so much. But it just does it for me!

^ my brother saw many metal bands. He was obsessed!

I'm going to try to impress you with my metal knowledge but I think he saw, along with those you already mention, Obituary, Sepletura (?) Cradle of Filth, Life of Agony.

His favourite band was definitely Pantera and Cemetary Gates really impressed me.

You reminded me that I once saw the ZX Spectrum Orchestra, in a museum in Spitalfields Market! They were entertaining, and exactly what you'd expect from the name.

I have been to too many gigs and festivals to remember, though that may just be the strong local cider. I seem to have lost interest in music recently though, I just find it irritating apart from the occasional tune that vaguely interests me.

Daniel O'Donnell - I was working on it.
Rose Marie - As above

Prefab Sprout doing their dress rehearsal before going on tour, and watching them film one of their videos.

All the concerts I've been to I have been working on, never actually been to a concert where I've paid to get in.

I've seen loads, though not in the last two decades or so. All my concert highlights have little do with the actual concerts, but more with a feeling of "that was a good night, actually".

Kristin Hersh
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (also 20 Miles)
Janes Addiction
Dead Moon
AC/DC (dragged along, but a lot of fun)
Deus (just before they got famous, they were the support act for Morphine)
Zita Swoon
Frank Black
Turin Brakes
Smashing Pumpkins

There are also quite a few concerts I missed because I was too anxious. I had tickets for Mark Lanegan, who I adore, but I just couldn't go.
