^Sky have an online chat function thingy where you can speak to someone. Although I don't know if that's possible with iffy broadband? Sometimes movies take hours for me to download

Well, max speed is 17Mbps in the UK I think. I used to get 14-15 but I'm close to the exchange.

Fibre on the other hand is 70Mbps

Sky's online chat thing isn't bad. I've only used it for my yearly "hey I'm going to defect to TalkTalk" ruse to make them give us a good deal for the next year, but they're always very helpful. Far preferable to a phone call. Get onto them, Luna!

The first thing they'll ask is for you to turn your router off and on again, so do that first so you can say you've done it already.

^^

Yeah that can be a problem Luna, if the router connects at a low speed for whatever reason, it'll maintain it. Plus some routers are very crap But it sounds much more like it's a line problem.

Turning routers off a lot can be unhelpful, since your line speed is constantly monitored and adjustments are made. Each time you turn the router off for a short time it resembles a disconnection due to line problems and your speed will be reduced a little to stabilise the connection. It's best to leave it turned on 24/7.

Leave your Sky box plugged in too while you're at it

It should never be that low no matter how often you turn off the router. Prod the online chat people, they're nice.

Ofcom Wi-Fi checker

I think you're well within your rights to demand better speed.

Oh yeah, testing with an ethernet cable would be a good test to rule out Wi-Fi issues

From what you guys have said, this is apparently pretty fast but it's usually extremely slow.

I suppose that's a server local to you, whereas most of the internet sites you browse are mostly on the other side of the world where you'll be jumping from router to router to get there.

Sleeves, all my cycling jersey's sleeves are about an inch too short to give me a decent glove-cuff interface for winter.

That till receipts have trebled in length during the past 18 months because they now include worthless promotions and so-called vouchers (with an even longer list of exclusions and terms and conditions). I examine my ticker-tape-parade receipt, remove the crap and leave it at the check out. And I smile.

The complete lack of any kind of queue. Not even subtle about just coming up and pushing their way right in front of you. Gah!

Yeah, it's so annoying when you're watching a film and waiting for a favourite scene and then you realise that they have cut it out
