Default Are you the youngest/eldest/middle sibling?

Do you have any brothers or sisters and are you the eldest, youngest, middle child, etc? Did it affect your anxiety? I hope I've covered everything in the poll but if I've missed anything obvious, LMK and I can add to it.

I've been a bit curious about how many other people with 'overlooked middle child' syndrome there are. Growing up it was sometimes shitty a) being the only girl, and b) having undiagnosed (at the time) autism. I love both of my brothers to bits, and we get on well nowadays. That said, when we were younger they were quite rowdy, quite a lot of the time - whereas I preferred to sit quietly and read a book or draw! I've long thought that having a sister would have helped me to feel less alone, particularly during my teenage years. (Not that there are any guarantees I would've got along with my hypothetical sister. Nor is there anything I can do about it now, of course!)

Lay your head on my chest, I'm listening

I'm the eldest, and I'm also the only girl and the quietest.

I have one sister. I’m older than her.

She’s taller than me, so everyone assumes I’m younger and I ain’t gonna complain about that!

My sister is my best friend. We get on really well and have similar interests, opinions and definitely the same sense of humour. I can talk to her about anything and because she also has anxiety, but not social anxiety, she can relate. She is able to challenge me as well. I know as soon as my anxiety tries to talk me out of things, my sister will be able to get me to challenge those thoughts and frame them in a different way. She’s a ten out of ten sister.

We do fall out sometimes as well!

I’d say we’re both ambiverts in that we love being chatty and sociable with people we are comfy with. We are also get pooped out and like time alone. My sister is better at maintaining friendships than I am and she understands people better than I do.

Yougest of 3 and my brothers (12 and 14 years older) are totally different to me. They're strong, capable, sucsessful, have friends and family etc. They were brought up together in different times and I got it a bit too easy. One I get along with, the other not at all.

Eldest of two.
My sister and I are like opposite personalities. (Yup, she is the outgoing, friendly, charismatic one, and I am...not).

^ hey - you're charismatic and friendly, sea. But perhaps SA makes it harder to shine through in "real life"?

Wow! That sounds like it would be a lot of fun. What were the age gaps like and did you all get along?

not always fun, but definitely character forming,
There was about 2 years between each of us, except me and my twin,
3 to a bed till I was about 14, so it was rather cramped,
I think that's one of the reasons I cherish my own space so much now.

I have only the one younger sister, a couple of years younger than me.
We get on well now, though I used to be really mean to her when I was young. But I feel bad about it now.
She lives in Spain and has a son of almost five years old, my nephew. He's really great and I wish I could see them more often.

Only child here. Part of me wishes I had some close siblings, but part of me is also glad I don’t.

I do however have a younger cousin who is like a sister to me. We’ve always got on well.

I just have one sister, who is two years younger than me. The annoying thing is we look very similar, but she's extremely confident, happy, popular and makes friends easily, so sometimes it's like looking at myself in a parallel universe. It would be easy to hate her because of how easy she seems to find everything, but I think she's great and we're very close - we speak several times a day and meet up as often as we can.

I have 2 older Brothers. We are all similar. Personality wise that is. Well, kind of. I've never seen them dedicate a love song to anyone. They are also taller and better looking than me. As well as having families of their own. Basically they're put together better than I am. Although they have no appreciation for Pot Noodles or Ben Shaws. So at least I'm more refined in that sense.
