Need help buying a new phone / switching over
Would anyone be able to help me?
Not on choosing a new phone but just how I switch over?, Im hopeless with technical stuff I'll explain.... My current phone (10 years old) is dying , the battery definatley is so I've decided to buy a new phone. It's an Android phone and I pay GiffGaff £6 a month for 1 GB. . I'm not on contract , I'm on pay as you go . I want to stay on Android and stay on GiffGaff pay as you go with a new phone. I also want to keep my current number. So am I right in thinking I would need to buy an unlocked phone? So that i can take out the SIM card from old phone and put it in new phone? Can i still pay the £6 a month for 1 GB on the new phone or does it depend on how much memory the new phone has? I don't know if im making sense but if anyone can explain how to switch over , in simple terms to me , i would greately appriciate..... in simple terms thanks lol |

Re: Need help buying a new phone / switching over
If you buy an unlocked phone and depending on the sim size if they match it is just a case of swapping them over. If the new phone doesn't take your existing sim card, you will have to ask GiffGaff for a new one, they come in the 3 sizes that new phones take, you just press the sim card out to the correct size. They are prepunched to size eg micro or nano, depending upon the phone. The might charge you a couple of quid to send you a new one.
The 1GB is the amount of data you can use each month, it has nothing to do with the phone, the memory on the phone is just for apps and the operating system. |

Re: Need help buying a new phone / switching over
If it's an older phone you are quite familiar and comfortable with you could possibly just buy a new battery? But you'd need to make sure it's changeable first,
Many newer phones are almost impossible to fit with new batteries in as they have become very slimline and basically have no space for mucking about with. So you'd need to see if it's something you can actually replace first if you'd prefer it? Otherwise, changing over the sim card is pretty much all you need to do, Maybe try and get password info from your favourite sites etc from your old phone if you use some regularly, Although you can now kind of migrate your digital footprint and such over to the new phone with things like "smart switch" etc. So your new phone will recognise your digital thumbprint as it were. |

^
no worries, I got a new phone a few weeks ago, so it's still quite fresh in my mind,. I was a bit reluctant about it, but it's really quite simple, Just seemed to be a simple case of putting your existing sim card into another phone, Not sure why I was getting so anxious about it, But I suppose you just get used to things as they are and change can be a bit annoying |
