I pretty much did. I had very firm words with her, got the whole lot off my chest, including the smell of cigarettes (no apology or barely acknowledged really). She tried to play for sympathy (health), she also played the 'don't be rude', 'i'm not arguing' cards but i shot each of those down immediately. I did at one point apologise for my impolite tone but didn't budge an inch from my view.

Well, she's vacated the space. Again, the washing machine did the business. I've decided not to take it back for now....... largely because it's a great pleasure watching her struggling to maneuver the thing out and will be even more so when i make that struggle worse with my own parking. Another thing is this will make me look good and her bad. All three of the other neighbours were home when i confronted her and would almost certainly have heard us - they'll probably expect a parking space war between us. Anyway, it feels like the best thing to do. Moral win, big boy pants, etc.

^ what's your next move?

Do you have designated car parking spaces? Are there rules on your tenancy agreement? Obviously you don't wanna make a lil ol' lady homeless but maybe reporting it will result in someone asking her to find other parking arrangements? I'm sure they wouldn't kick her out or anything like that - I hope.

I guess in some way she can't help that she has a big ol' truck and no where to park it. There's no way of making that not sound like a euphemism. But it's not cool that she's taking up yours and other people's spaces.

Dunno how you do it. I would not be able to cope with this level of beef!!

I've just got back and have parked in her space, leaving her my space if she wishes. At the moment she's still parked across the road (public road space). The spaces are all designated - it's in the deeds, there's a parking space diagram bs thing. I refuse to be made to look bad about this so i'll carry on giving her the option of the space, even though THE MOST ****ING OBVIOUS SOLUTION IS TO GET A ****ING SMALLER CAR, FOR THE LOVE OF ****ING GOD. We're 10+ years down the line though and she's still got the poxy thing. I have no idea what purpose it serves. Like i said, it's a American pickup style 'truck' with big storage in the back. It's massive, i can't overstate that.

Lol, that's quite a move. I'd rather people just stop shitting on each other but people be people.

^ oh crikey! She's been parking that way for ten years? That's a long time. She's probably thinking why have you suddenly taken umbrage to it now.

I guess her parking on the road is some progress to respecting your space?

I feel like I can't silver-linings this haha sorry.

Love the bollard lock idea. Maybe you could put a sandwich with a post it note. Please don't run over my sandwich.

Ah, no, not quite. As i've said previously, when she moved in she began to park erratically wherever she pleased, pissed everyone off, which forced a meeting between the residents and my mum, who was living here at the time, agreed reluctantly to exchange spaces as she wouldn't compromise getting a smaller car (to fit into her designated space). That's one big concession in my book. She got her way. Her parking there meant the neighbour who was now parked next to her had a struggle maneuvering in/out because of the size of her car and so downsized his car - another concession, another sacrifice for her. Throughout this roughly 10yr period she would come and go, spending half the time here and half in Portugal, which was fantastic because her gigantic car wasn't in the way AND the putrid smell of her cigarettes wasn't hanging about the communal hallway and specifically my flat, where the smell comes in via the bathroom (and you can also smell it opening kitchen cupboards). Another concession. The old guy in the top flat had said to me about being an ex-smoker and the smell in the hallway being unwelcome. Nice.

All was looking hopeful when she put her flat up for sell a year ago and vacated the property, i finally thought we'd seen the last of her. A couple of things pissed me off during this period - she and/or the property agents used my parking space (with her parked there) in a few of the photos. No biggie but could've been bothersome had the new residents got the impression that the space was theirs - you can imagine. I emailed them, nothing changed. Another thing, when she did the viewings (yes, she did the viewings) she would park up obstructing the way of three of us getting in/out. Yep, no worries, we'll just stay put whilst the world revolves around you.

Then she came back a couple of months ago. Don't know the circumstances. She comes back with this tiny car, uses her designated space, fantastic, all good. She parks in such a way (way off of the wall, quite away from the car adjacent) that makes things slightly awkward/deliberate but we're all good and it's just about manageable to maneuver around. This car btw was the same car she would come to do the property viewings in many, many months previously - take note. Then last weekend, on the Friday, the big truck makes it's appearance, parked across the road. I started suspecting, as per my posts. She waits til i've moved, which was on the Monday and then moves into my space. As suspected. We have it out and she says the tiny car was a courtesy whilst her truck was in the garage. Who on earth has a loan/courtesy car for 6+ months... ?? I remember she was doing viewings back last year in that car. Same, little white car. Bullshit.

I'll carry on leaving her the spot. I've said my bit. She hasn't once said the entire time (10+ years) what the use in the vehicle is. Never argues the need for it. She doesn't need such a massive vehicle as far as i can tell. She hasn't apologised for the stink of the smoke. I raised it very clearly when we last spoke - didn't acknowledge it, not a word. Could've/should've said about safeguarding her flat from smoke escaping. Nah. **** everyone else.

Oh, that does sounds stressful to you and the other residents. I suppose having a taste of the good life without the truck and then it suddenly being back all the time exacerbates it all. Did the outcome of the initial residents meeting mislead her into thinking that all this time it's been okay with the other residents? But if someone said to me the way I park is inconveniencing them then I'd be mortified and try to do something different. Perhaps more people need to say something as well as she might think it's just you?

Maybe she's waiting for the housing market to sort itself out so she can sell up.

(sorries about missing some of the previously explained info)

Quite the pickle.

FFS has she got a Toyota Hilux or Mitsubishi L200? Ridiculous sized things for the UK, but obviously very practical for a builder type person which I guess she ain't. She sounds awful.

Angle a decent sized screw by one tyre (in the dead of night), so when she drives off the screw impregnates said tyre. Rinse & repeat till she's had to replace a few tyres.

^^ Yeah, it is stressing. I hate confrontation, i try to uphold best practice and standards in and around my living area, respect my neighbours, etc. and so it pisses me off when someone goes against that. In the period before the meeting she effected everyone at some point, parking wherever and i'm fairly certain those that lived here at the time would've told her what they thought. The meeting was called purely for the parking issue - i can't believe it actually occurred tbh, quite bizarre to think because we have designated parking but she obviously wanted someone to give up their space. There are three spaces she could possibly park and my mum kindly but reluctantly (and stupidly?) exchanged spaces with her. Nothing was signed, it was a spoken solution. There's no way she could've come away from it all thinking that no one had an issue with her, though it seems she's the sort of person not to care what others think. Maybe it's a cultural thing and people give way to their elderlies in Portugal.. ? She's spent long enough here to know, previously living in London. I don't know.

^ Yes, very similar size. It's the sort of thing Australian farm wranglers drive around in, lol. It's massive. You probably get 15mpg out of it, completely impractical for her. To look at her you really, really wouldn't expect her to drive that. I was so happy when she had the little car

^ Family is really important in Portugal, but nope it's not really a cultural thing to let the elderly govern car parking spaces. You'd obviously let your own nan have the space she needs without question and let an elderly person have the space if it were closer to the building for mobility reasons etc.

She is kind of a badass. Driving a gangster car. Taking up everyone's space. I kind of love her audacity- from this safe distance. But I bet in reality it's frustrating as helllllllll!

Well, I feel like you just came here to vent and we are all Jeremy Kyle-ing the situation, giving solutions that aren't solutions haha next we'll be giving the little white car an "ARE YOU HER REAL CAR?" lie detector DNA test haha

I just hope she sells up soon so you have one less stressor!

Just been to a Body Shop party. My face feels silky, I brought a couple of thing I wouldn't normally and I now feel a little girly. I'm going home now to drink beer and watch porn.

Beat up any youth that look at you the wrong way on the way home. Then you'll discard that unwelcome femininity.

^^^ I meant give way to the elderly in a general sense, not just parking! Yeah, i had them down as being similar in tradition to Italians in the family sense, don't know why. And yes, it goes without saying that i'd allow exceptions for the disadvantaged but .... it's about the car and the way she goes about things (and the bloody smoking).

Now, what if i need/want a bigger car.. ? The space i'm in is only suitable for a small hatchback style car.

Lol, she's like Dennis the Menaces gran. Probably smells the same too That white car, i'm sure, is probably parked over her daughters who doesn't live far from here. Get the lie detector out....... !

Gotta love Southampton city centre on a Saturday night. Walked past a group of chavs who called me a fat **** and threatened to smash me in, a couple of blokes got into a punch up near the bus stop and a group of obviously drunk lads were throwing homophobic abuse at each other, all before 8:30.

Having a few unanswered questions about death, life and existence lead me to a couple YouTube videos about 'life before birth in the womb, journey by week' , which was fun and everything, but it didn't take much until I stumbled upon a medical autopsy video. And that was not the ideal thing to watch before bed yesterday. It was a bad quality video, but still haunting me the entire day.

On a side note. The anxiety medication I'm taking is very effective.

the amount of detail parents need when they're having kids is insane. Having to sterilise baby bottles after every use as an example. Hats off to those people that manage it.
