Feeling a bit annoyed and confused. I did an econsult about my hay fever and asked for Prednisolone/steroid, which i had once been prescribed a low dose of for many years. It works 100% of the time. I layed it on thick but not so much as to be obvious, hit on the key notes - enough to suggest that i'm having a hard time. Anyway, they've decided to go against that (because of side effects) and give me a higher dose of the medication that i'm already taking, despite me saying that it's ineffective and i'm taking twice the dosage ...!

Also, there was no instruction about where the prescription is to be picked up from... ? Do i go to the doctors or the pharmacy?

What do they prescribe these days? Last time I tried their nasty pills it was fexofenadine hydrochloride(telfast) didn't help me at all. Even on the highest dose they gave me.

^^ oh thats a pain . If you've taken the steroid before with no bad effects surely its simpler to just give you that!

Do you have a nominated pharmacy? they usually send prescriptions to that (well mine does).

If you have the NHS app (sometimes surgeries have there own mine also uses Airmid UK) you can sometimes see if there holding the prescription, with me if it says nothing usually the pharmacy has it, as I have one nominated.

^^ I'm on 120mg Fexofenadine at the moment and i can't tell any difference. I've upped the dosage to two pills a day and it's had no noticeable impact. The highest dose is 180mg, which they said can be taken three times a day, so that'll be twice as much again. Will it make a difference .. ? Doubtful.

^ I had no noticeable side effects from the steroid though i can appreciate that there can be unseen damage and also long-term damage from use. I don't take the prescribed dose anyway, i usually begin taking once a day and then miss every third day sort of thing, as suits.

Yeah, i have a nominated pharmacy but it's been quite a long time since i've done anything like this, i'm not sure what the deal is.

^ you can always ask in the pharmacy - the worst case scenerio is that they will look you up on the system and see / tell you that the surgery hasn't sent it I guess.

^^ Yeah, no loss really. The pharmacy is close to the doctors.

^ No. I almost bought that recently but got Vicks Sinex instead, which made no difference. I'll have a look in the pharmacy for it.

I use beconase for my sinuses. You have to make sure you use it properly e.g. not sniffing it up your nose because then you swallow it instead. You put it up your nose and point it horizontally towards your ear.

The excellent Dr Rajan has some hayfever tips:

Bit extreme but I've been testing out one of these on our house today to try and help with hayfever.

https://www.blauberg.co.uk/en/positi...fresher-50-piv

Bit like an extractor fan but it blows instead of sucks. Positive input ventilation designed to force filtered air onto your home pushing out all the nasty pollens.

Right now I'm enjoying the fresh filtered air as our house was getting revolting from not being able to open windows.

^^ I really thought you said Baconnaise....
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baconnaise
and for a second I was genuinely intrigued as to how that might work. Kind of a modern folk remedy?

I was all ready to leave for my 9am appointment with the dentist despite feeling like utter crap, but his receptionist just called to say he is still stuck in traffic because of the weather (it's raining) and can I reschedule the appointment for tomorrow. I said no, I have other plans. I don't.

Wishing that I wasn't so clumsy, recently I've fallen over twice, luckily I haven't broken anything.

^ Enjoy the festival T

^^ I hope you are alright now newbs and wasn't too bruised and shaken up?

I was renowned for falling over as a child because I never looked where I was going and then as an adult I wore unsuitable shoes for a time, and often took a tumble, once outside the school gates, much to my then young sons amusement! Now I wear comfortable flats as I don't think my body would recover so easily from a fall. Btw, I hope it doesn't sound like I am implying that you don't look where you are going or wear non sensible shoes!

Anyway, right now I've been looking through my wardrobe at all the clothes that fitted me last Summer but this year won't hide a stomach that has blown up like a balloon. I've opted for one of the few dresses that fits in nervous anticipation of seeing my son's girlfriend this evening. As much as I want to hide away today I don't want to be thought of as an odd mother even though I am

^ Thank you Azalea
I hope you are well

I put a nice dress on and saw them for all of 2 minutes when they got back to the house. Then they disappeared upstairs and I haven't seen them since, although it looks like they have gone out as the car has disappeared! Oh I wish I was 20 again. Actually I don't, because when I was 20, I had no friends, no hope of ever having a boyfriend, and spent endless hours doing solitary hobbies in my bedroom. Hmm, some of that sounds like me now, lol
