Hi Julian,

I think you are very brave doing a course like that and must have coped with a lot of demanding sitauitions.

I second befals advice ..if you feel ok about talking to your student services or even course tutors about your SA then they should try to help in one way or another. I mean people who have other problems such as dyslexia can help and support.

Also io agree that yor idea about photographing people with SA is a good one . As you are an SA sufferer yourself you will have alot of energy , passion and will devote proper time to this kind of project. I wil be willing to help in any way i can. I have taken pics of SA ppl at meets and some people are fine with it and others are terrified of it. And theres' those in between as well.
I'm not sure wheer your based but i live in West yorkhire. PM me if you want to talk about it more.

If i were you i would speak to your tutors with the idea and also the difficulties your having with doing the general projects and try to get them to recognize how hard it is is for you.

best of luck an keep us posted on here..

I think it's a brilliant idea to take photos of people with SA and I'd be happy to be a model if I'm near enough. I live in West Yorkshire.
Maybe you could call your project Camera Shy :D
It would be good to be able to capture different emotions on camera - the various emotions experienced by SA'ers from fear, worry, embarrassment, shy smiles, depression, etc...

Ooh this is quite interesting. If you're stuck for ideas on how to go about it flickr.com might be a good place to look for inspiration.

Also, I was thinking about taking some sort of photography at uni before I ended up quitting college, documentary photography was one I was looking at but as soon as I realised it would involve speaking to people, possibly presenting and also possibly wandering around with a camera alone, I backed away. And questioned the point of my college course and quit that too. ohwell.
So I was wanting to ask, just in case I ever get a chance or decide to try and apply again - are there many people there on your course that haven't just left college and are well in their 20s? Is it hard to get through?

but yeah, hmm. Maybe you could focus on certain aspects of social anxiety, like the sort of activities someone with SA would do, maybe a picture for each hour (or certain hours)of the day or something. Or how out of place they may seem in certain situations. I am, of course an idiot...so I dunno. Some of the pictures wouldn't necessarily have to have people in too I'm guessing?

maybe these pictures I found can help inspire? ahah PROBABLY NOT but oh well.

I think the project is a really good idea, kill two birds with one stone. Well kind of. By doing this project you could learn more about social anxiety and learn to deal with it better. My Idea was that you get one or two good books on the subject, here are a couple I have myself:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Overcoming-S...e=UTF8&s=books

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Diagonally-P...971770-9990012

being an image based study, looking at how you might feel vs how you look might be interesting. my book says people with social anxiety over estimate how nervous they look and that misconception increases the more nervous you are. The trick would be trying to get candid photos of someone with social anxiety in difficult situations, but it could be fun just experimenting. I'd be willing to give it a go if you're in London, I'm quite into photography myself. Maybe it could be as simple as documenting an SA meet at a pub. You might already have reference or self help books for help, but if not I'd say that would be the way to go. Maybe the advice from a book could be applied in situations and documented. The awkward social interaction of someone before reading the chapter on verbal behaviour and then the triumphant all smiles one afterwards. I don't know, I just see it as a good opportunity to really get stuck in to this thing that's holding us all back.
All the best.
