Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
I am of the mind that they should scrap every Christmas song each Christmas and just release a new lot of songs for christmas.
I see Sam whatshisface has done a Christmas song. |

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
I hate them all
Every last xmas-related sound that is weaponised against me in privately or publicly owned spaces is an assault on my well-being. Turn it off. Turn it all off. I'd rather live in complete silence for a month of the year than this offensive repetitive barrage of themed tripe. Stop it. Stop it now. Anyway, you were saying? |

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
TBH the one bit of Christmas music I like is the bit in The Twelve Days of Christmas where it goes
Fiiiiive Goooold Riiiiiings! I think this could be used in other seasonal songs to make them more tolerable. For example: So here it is, merry Christmas, everybody's having fun, look to the future now, it's only just be- Fiiiiive Goooold Riiiings! -gun...... Isn't that better? |

Anything harp based.
I once saw an impromptu harpist rattle out a bunch of Christmas carols/songs in a hospital waiting room. Very nice. Quote:

Mine is the mince pie one.
My primary school had the best Christmas bangers. We have one teacher who played guitar and his repertoire was out of this world. An acoustic version of Jimi Hendrix. |

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
Personally, I usually can't stand Xmas songs, especially modern ones. For some reason, I find groups like Pentatonix particularly torturous to listen, but my sister loves them.
Despite the fact that last year in my old job for Sainsbury's working nightshift, they were playing non-stop Xmas songs throughout the whole store EVERY 10-hour shift I worked for the whole month and a bit (many songs played again and again) and putting me in a murderous rage half the time, I still don't mind a handful of the older ones, this one being my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJPc7esgvsA I left the link because I've forgotten how to embed YouTube videos. |

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
Fairytale of New York because it was written by Shane McGowan (RIP), who is one of the best songwriters of the last 40 years.
And he was born on Christmas Day, so no contest. John Lennon- So This Is Christmas- second. Greg Lake- I Believe in Father Christmas- third. The rest can do one. |

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
Out of the ones you end up hearing everywhere, I don't mind Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses, and I have to admit All I Want for Christmas Is You is a bit of a banger.
All the others can go to hell and crawl up Satan's arse where they belong. |

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
I like carols, the bangers of the past. Most of the well-known Christmas songs have Christmas shopping or working in retail bad memories attached. Confession time, I think I heard Buble do a Christmas song when I was out and I didn't hate it, I sort of enjoyed it. This is clearly a sign of the post fertile years, a rapidly declining music taste.

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
I listen to A Very Chilly Christmas (Chilly Gonzales) a lot at christmas. I like the Jarvis Cocker and Feist songs. The Last Christmas cover goes a bit too Richard Clayderman though.

Fairytale of New York, I was lucky to see them play it live a while ago and they had gold confetti fall from the roof, it was really magical.

Re: What are your favourite Christmas songs?
I suppose Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time Is Here, instrumental or vocal version. My dad always loved the record - I wasn't really bothered, and I dislike the cartoon, but I used to like this song from it when I was young because it always sounded a bit unsettling to me, a very weird atmosphere for a Christmas song and a bit creepy. Now as an adult it just sounds miserable, but not in a bad way.
It's difficult to have a favourite of anything really with songs that are played so much they're no longer enjoyable to listen to. I find there's something quite unpleasant about British Christmas songs in general, the ones from the 70s and 80s anyway. |

I forgot to mention one of my faves, which I heard yesterday, namely 2000 miles by the Pretenders.
Chrissie Hynde has a wonderful voice. |
