Default Are you a cat person or a dog person?

Cats win the irresistible stakes for me.
I see an abundance of cat avatars on this forum.
Dogs are ok but if I had to have one it would be the calm, intelligent type. preferably as self sufficient as possible. An old sheep dog would do me I suppose.
My cat died last year.

I am a cat person but get along with dogs and most animals fine.

I like cats because they better express what I would like to see in my own personality. Mainly in regards to their wild nature, independence, the choice to let them loose knowing they came back..Though I prefer more wild natured cats rather than the very domesticated ones.

Dogs are loving and loyal but..They so dependent and pretty clueless without someone to help them. Certain cats can be just as loyal as a dog, can be very protective, while needing barely any care without ANY training. (Though its better if they also have training.) Thats the kind of pet I like, someone who is nearer to being a companion than a baby that needs caring for. Dogs can eventually become adults but it takes alot of time and effort training them and never really changes the fact that they are dependant on you. Obviously very domesticated cats (Which I suppose most people prefer) are pretty clueless too without help from owner.

A dog person I suppose,I`ve grown up always having them. What put me off most about cats was the whole bringing-half dead/dead-stuff-to-you-as-a-present and the sitting on worktops and suchlike (just from observation of friends or other family members cats). This argument went out the window with the arrival of my current dog though as he has brought as many vile offerings in as a cat could be bothered to,and as a puppy I think sat on every square inch of house he could launch himself at. In light of which a low-maintenance,independent pet sounds quite appealing.

Dogs. They're lively, like running about, love fuss... I am more like a dog so prefer them. Woof woof. I think often when people prefer cats it because they're more like a cat than a dog... maybe explains sauk and the cat pics.

If I had to choose, probably dogs but I'm biased.

No human could ever greet me or wiggle their bum as enthusiastically as my dog does when he aint seen me in a few hours They give a lot back.

If cats were the size of dogs then we'd have some major problems.

... That's all i have to say.

I grew up with cats. Whenever I hear dog people talk about cats they clearly misunderstand them. I've had cats that are very loving and love attention. They often get attached to particular people more than others, just like dogs do.

I always thought it would be great to have a puppy as they look sweet, but when I've been around puppies recently they only seem to want to bite and chew people and chew up everything in sight. They don't seem warm or affectionate at all. But maybe that's just the ones I've been around. Kittens are the most fun creatures ever

Also when dogs bark it drives me mad and is a horrible sound. When cats meow it is so sweet.

I prefer cats, there aren't many I don't get on with. Dogs are more like people, some of them I love but most of them I'm not bothered with.

Cats x1000. I used to be quite frightened of dogs, but now I don't mind them. I wouldn't want one though, they're seriously needy creatures!

Cat's are alright I suppose, if you like being: ignored, scratched and supplied with dead s**t from the garden.

DOGS ROCK BABY!

I love all animals, but my dog for the last two years has helped massively with getting me out and about and with cuddles and such. Don't get me wrong, our cat is lovely too but only when he wants to be :D. Definitely a dog person. A dog is always happy to see you, whereas a cat couldn't care less most of the time.

Cats, although unfortunately both of my parents detest cats with a passion so its doubtful I'll ever get one myself until I move out.

My point exactly!

Domestic cats just about contain their true nature only because of their diminutive size i.e. they tolerate us.

I checked out a few different wild cat varieties and not all of them seem dangerous.

Dogs! I never really understood cats. Having a dog gets me out and about, even talking to people. It's helped with my depression quite a bit i think

Dogs, cats stare at me and make me uncomfortable. Also it's not the norm to take cats for a walk.

Dogs for sure, but mostly other peoples dogs, especially big soppy dogs, so that I don't have to walk them in the rain or pick up their poo.
