The Speakmans
Is anyone watching this? On Friday's programme is someone who has social anxiety, might be worth watching to see if they can 'cure' her. Friday @ 2pm on ITV.

Re: The Speakmans
We'll have to see if it generates as much debate as the segment on This Morning did the other week. I'm sure that it will.

Re: The Speakmans
I have watched it a few times, it's alright, and they appear to have helped their clients. But those two are so annoying. Espesh the woman.
I have seen lots of Derren Brown stuff, he's alright but wasn't he found to be a fraud a few months back? |

^^^ It's bound to get heated
^^ yes! That was great. He did actually have SA and he seemed a lot better after Derren had finished with him. Would be great to see what he's like now. |

The method Derren used for him seemed to just be exposure therapy sort of. He just put him in uncomfortable situations and he seemed to get better. That's great, but I highly doubt that would work for everyone. |

Yeah, watching the spider one now on ITV+1. Exposure therapy does work, but not sure its that simple with SA so will watch tomorrow to see what happens. I've forced myself to speak to people many times but it never gets any easier. |

Re: The Speakmans
Are they qualified psychologists or just a pair of rich have a go heroes? I've only seen the ad for it

Re: The Speakmans
What did people think? I'm not sure she really had SA, more was like scared of her family! So not convinced really.

Re: The Speakmans
No, I wasn't convinced she really had SA, there's no way just telling someone to forgive bullies + themselves in a mirror is going to cure anyone of SA. Plus she walked the exposure therapy bit by easily buying stamps from the shop. If that's all the therapy she had then either its a miracle cure, or she was putting it on. I'm guessing there may have been more sessions we didn't see, but they didn't make that clear - and I would have preferred seeing what they did.
I kind of lost interest though when they turned up at the Speakmans mansion, they clearly do well from people with relatively minor problems, sorry, schemas. |

Re: The Speakmans
They live about 10 minutes away from me. They call it "Speakman Hall", but to me it's still Stubley Hall.
There is some history of the place here: Stubley Hall I've been very cynical of them. I appreciate they're trying to help people, but why not just do that without having a TV series about it? |

Re: The Speakmans
I've watched a few of their episodes and the people on it (the conditions range from OCD to Agoraphobia to a fear of swallowing food) seem to be cured unconditionally.
I'm a bit skeptical at just how quickly and easily they're cured but it does work. |
