I can play a few chords on the guitar but I haven't picked mine up for years.
Currently I'm saving up for a bass guitar.

Tried piano when small and guitar as an adult, I sucked at both. Don't have a musical bone in my body.

I tried the trumpet and saxophone, but I sucked at both. Turns out I was doing it wrong.

None whatsoever ever haha

My parents couldn't afford music lessons or anything like that, so I never tried any as a child. I tried to learn guitar as an adult, but couldn't get my hands to do different things at the same time.

My Nan got me a recorder from a jumble sale and I used to play it with my nose.

When I say 'play it' I don't mean tunefully. It was just noise!

Used to play the bass, was in a couple of bands,
But never really got very far,
I still play 6 string acoustic guitar now and then,

I also liked tinkering on the keyboard,
But I haven't dragged it out from under my bed in a while,

I'd recommend playing anything, just get a cheap guitar,
It can be quite a bit of fun just playing through a basic bluetooth speaker,

I never progressed very far on either instrument,
I was really just doing it as a favor for someone.

I can play piano/keyboards, can't really play guitar but I tried. (I am cursed with small hands/fingers/mutant thumbs - it's all very unfortunate.) Would quite fancy taking up a banjo or something. I do miss playing something; it's a great stress reliever.

Edit: my hands are apparently normal for a woman. Apart from the mutant thumb. That limits my span.

All this talk of musical instruments has got me watching Simon The Magpie on Youtube. And now I want a meowing cat keyboard.

When I was a teenager I was given an acoustic guitar and a book to teach me how to play, but I didn't understand it, or I didn't really care enough to try to understand it. I spent more time sniffing it than trying to learn any chords (it had a sweet woody smell if I stuck my nose in the holely bit in the middle)

Wanted to learn the melodica at one point, but never got further than browsing eBay.

I got a little 'positive referral' thing they handed out at school when you did something well for keeping a 'dum-dum-tish' beat on the drums in music class though, so I'm basically a rock star.

I always wanted to play the guitar. Looking back, I think I really just wanted to be David Bowie.

When AI and robots finally get rid of work, and we are free, I will have another go. I’d also like to try the mandolin.

I play guitar relatively well - I started learning when I was a child and was in a band for a couple of years as a student, but haven't really bothered for the last few years. I can play the ukulele too and know some basic piano stuff. A week ago I bought a lap steel guitar, just a basic one, since I thought it would be fun to learn something new. It's going okay so far, it's completely different to a regular guitar though, it's basically starting again from scratch.

I played the saxophone when I was at school. Mainly because I just wanted to be able to play the Pink Panther theme and Baker Street. I mastered the Pink Panther theme, but Baker Street, never really got to grips with that.

That's a blast from the past! I used to play the melodica when I was at primary school. I also played the recorder but didn't get beyond 'London's Burning'.

I had piano lessons as a youngster but eventually grew bored and stopped. I could never read music and preferred to try and play by ear. I've forgotten anything I learned and would struggle to play the chopsticks now. Someone gave me their old out of tune guitar years ago and I briefly had visions of becoming an acoustic guitarist. When I was still struggling to learn the basics after a whole week I gave up. Perseverance has never been one of my strong points.

There used to be a guy on here who plays the piano professionally and he was talking about a small handheld instrument with lots of keys.

Does anyone know what it's called? I want to get one for my sister.

In middle school I was learning the euphonium, but lost interest after a couple of years.

But it did help me when I was learning Morse code 20 years ago.

^^^^^^ the saxophone is good for Yakkety Sax, Baker Street and the sexy bit from every film from the 1980s. I think that's enough.

I used to play the cello at school but got bored when I was no longer allowed to use it as a weapon.

We all wanted to learn guitar.
All the cool kids at school were learning guitar and would look very cool walking to & from school with their guitar cases.
So naturally I got signed up to learn the violin. Ffs I'm still traumatised.
Walking to and from school with a violin case, you might as well walk around with a WHOEVER YOU ARE PLEASE BULLY ME sign.

Yup, it is the one single thing that I can do that almost qualifies as cool. I was very much in the nerdy Lisa Simpson school of saxophone player.

I learnt the clarinet at school. I didn't like it (I gave up after about a year)

I had wanted to learn the piano but parents were too mean to buy a second hand piano.

I play the piano a bit now. I used to play the guitar a little.
