Default I'm going to quit drinking.

I have decided to quit drinking. again. Maybe not permantly but for a while. It is going to be difficult as I can already here the endless moans of my 'friends'.

I want to do this for me though and I think it would be good for me.

Anyways. Tomorrow/Today is going to be the first day.

Daz.

Yeah. I want to sort myself out and I feel drinking holds me back a bit. I have quit and had breaks before and they have been a big help. So I want to try again.

I main goal is to be able to have fun on a friday/saturday night without having to rely on alcohol. I also want to be fit and healthy.

Neski: Seconded *mini high five back at ya*

my social life revolvles around a pub/going round peoples houses which always involves drinking, call me a social inept mouse, but that suits me quite well!! would love to be able to go out without dutch courage -aint gonna happen though!! although, would never dream of drinking at work and talk to people all day long, happily - jeez im weird

I avoid alcohol, have done for years, largely due to the SA but i'd actually like to have the confidence to drink without feeling depressed, anxious or a complete idiot. Mind you i don't actually like being drunk.

Unfortunetly i'm also a lightweight so i'm usually out after a few pints.

I rarely drink cause i always find alcihol brings me mood right down, wish i could be one of these folks who become the life and soul of the party but alas i sit there feeling like a soggy weekend in Belgium.

Good luck Daz hope you find giving alcihol a break helps you feel brighter in yourself chuck

I couldn't do it myself. As a matter of fact I've still got nearly half a bottle of wine left waiting for me from last night.

Neski, check out those nicotene patches. They helped me give up smoking anyway.

Yep, good luck with it.

I used to rely a lot on drink to get me through social occasions, but it eventually caused more problems than it masked. I was a runner and a weight trainer too, so I felt drink hampered both of those things. I still drink now, but in moderation. It's not easy quitting it, so I wish you the best of luck.

Good luck with it Freespirit - it's good you have friends who you can enjoy a drink with - it's not good to drink too much though or to be dependent on it.

Thanks winnie. Is kate well btw? I noticed you posted a thread about her. send her my regards.

Anyways back to my drinking.

I can't sleep tonight. I think that's the combo of meds and drink cuasing that. I have just been thinking about my attitude when I drink. I always just want to get smashed. Its childish really. I go on a mission just to get as wasted as possible. Bloody hell. Thats what I need to sort out. That attitude.

I am going to look into where it comes from. Hopefully I shall find some answers.

I'll get it sorted.

Hey Daz,

I started a similar thread a while back and thought some of the replies might be useful to you; http://www.social-anxiety-community....ht=call+advice (Not sure how to link it - hope this works).

I have a similar problem & I think you're right about needing to change your attitude towards getting drunk - me too! I managed a week without any alcohol at all & was quite pleased with meself. Think i'll go for 2 weeks next time - wanna join me?? Maybe we could start a quitting drinking support group.
