Re: What are you doing right now? (6)
Listening to what sounds like some frantic activity from my usually very quiet downstairs neighbour. I hear a motor of some sort (probably hoover), bangs, thuds, this and that. Seems to be in one room and then another. I do hope she's not preparing to move out. The longer she's there the higher the possibility though, add in the turbulence of the rent market. I will cry if it's so - won't get another one like her.

Re: What are you doing right now? (6)
^^ Yes, Angela, it's a real worry, i've been so lucky with the two i've had here since moving back. The first was a guy who was mostly quiet except for the odd occasion where he'd play some music - which is tolerable and it wasn't loud. When he left i was thrown into the torment of not knowing and i feared the worst but the new (and current) neighbour is exceptionally quiet. No music, can't hear tv, rarely hosts, nothing unusual, no coming and goings on late in the night etc. Let's hope you get the same
^ Yes, very possibly! |

I'm in my 50s and I've noticed my big toenails have started to look particularly unsightly with lines running down them. I've found myself wondering if nail varnish would improve their appearance. Do heterosexual men in their 50s paint their toenails? Does L'Oreal do a range for middle aged men? Am I having a midlife crisis? How do people react to 50 year old men with scarlet toenails? I don't know the answers to these questions. |

Wondering whether anyone else is aware that we have 'glow bugs' in this country.... ? I've just got back from a walk and seen two of them. The first one i thought was an electronic device of some sort with it's LED glowing in the grass verge - maybe someone dropped a phone or something. It was only when i looked closer and noticed it was a bugs arse end. I never knew we had them. Then a bit further on i spotted a second! They're fairly large ish in size too. Didn't seen them flying, just hanging out in the growth.

Re: What are you doing right now? (6)
^ you made me Google 'glow bugs UK'. Apparently there aren't any fireflies in the UK, but only glow worms and they don't fly.
Must have been really cool to see! |

I'm wondering whether i should tell my downstairs neighbour that i'm about to use a carpet cleaner vacuum thing. I've borrowed one from work and i've no idea how loud it is but i think the idea is to go over the carpet quite thoroughly, over and over. My carpets a mess and i was planning on really going at it too. |

Re: What are you doing right now? (6)
Sitting in my car putting off buying a ticket for a silly amount of time because it's an old ticket machine at this car park and doesn't take card and last time it wouldn't work and a man ended up helping me and I felt really stupid.
Also there's lots of mums around yelling at their small children which is making me anxious. I don't like listening to aggression, even when it's got nothing to do with me. |

Re: What are you doing right now? (6)
^ How did it go, Merry?
Tbh, even the modern machines confuse me. and anyway car park machines are stupid, and having to pay for parking is stupid. |

The parking meter has no written instructions to follow, but I just kept pressing the green button and it did work! Plus it was £1 for 4 hours parking, which was unexpected, I'd taken a purse full of change It was worth going, I had a nice walk and (I think) made a new friend. I had to walk a long way around to meet up with her to avoid some day time drunks on a bench, but I managed. |

Re: What are you doing right now? (6)
^ Aw yay !
Yay for cheap parking and potential new friend, and well done to you for going out and doing something new |

That's lovely, Merry. I love it when the ending makes all the rubbish that comes with the build up all worth while.
