Default Best and worst films of 2019

I have still to watch Parasite and Marriage Story and not seen a few like Crawl, Motherless Brooklyn, It chapter 2, Doctor Sleep and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark yet and Little Women comes out Boxing Day I think. But here is my best and worst films of 2019.

Best

Playing with Fire
The Dead Don't Die
Avengers: Endgame
Greta
Yesterday
Alita: Battle Angel
Fighting with my Family
The Hummingbird Project
Hotel Mumbai
The Best of Enemies
John Wick 3
Godzilla: King of Monsters
The Kitchen
Angel has Fallen
The Goldfinch
Joker
Knives Out
Escape Room
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
The Irishman
The Aeronauts
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - liked it on my 2nd screening at home but still 30 mins to long.
The Red Sea Diving Resort
Jo Jo Rabbit - Feel asleep for a good part of it but what I saw was funny.
Ford vs Ferrari
Worst

Detective Pikachu
Jumanji: The Next Level
The Lego Movie 2
Escape Plan 2 or 3 - can't remember what the latest one is but they are both awful
Shazam
Hellboy
I spit on your grave deja vu
The Art of Self Defence
Terminator: Dark Fate
The Fanatic
Gemini Man
El Camino: A Breaking Bad movie
The Current War

Like every year most films where just ok/pretty good. Us and Midsummer I expect to be a bit better given the writer/directors previous work with Get Out and Hereditary that were 2 of my favourite films of 2017 and 2018.

Best: Joker was my favourite (typical, I know)
Knives out was super good.
I actually liked Jumanji 2 I thought it was funnier than the first.
Avengers endgame was fun the first time but when I rewatch it I just find it really boring.
Crawl was a fun horror.
Spiderman far from home. I love anything Spiderman so maybe I'm biased lol.
Good boys

Worst: IT chapter 2
The lion king
Dark phoenix (was this year I think)

Eek! not sure I can recall what films I watched this year to compile a list with, but good on you John Smith for getting out and about and managing to catch all those films
but generally, films do seem to be getting a bit shit lately,..
Only film I can actually recall was once upon a time, the sharon tate movie,.and I found that to be really quite funny, but a bit of a buddie movie more than anything,
Odd thing is, it could have been a really sinister movie if they'd just tweaked it a bit,
I genuinely can't recall anything else, so my poor memory must be going, as well as everything else.
Oh, did see Joker and actually hated it,..lol

Forgot about Dark Pheonix. Better than the last X-Men film but that's not saying much.

Did enjoy it that is one of the better Spiderman films that had the best villian so far and THAT mid credit stinger but don't like any of Peter Parker side friend characters and the love interest between him and MJ ( think that's her name).

Most of the films I would say 2/3rds I just waited until they were available to download

What s with all these new films being 2 hours plus?

What did you not like about it? Simple story? Slow pace?

I think for me, the story was just too obvious and overplayed,
I'm not sure I'm all that keen on Joaquin Phoenix as an actor,
The whole storyline of the film could easily have been played out in about 30mins

It was interesting seeing the backstory behind the joker, but somehow it was just a bit too dark and too near the bone for me,
Okay, someone may have terrible issues and mental health problems, but that doesn't mean they're duty bound to blow someone's head off,..
Just found it all terribly negative and dark, I get enough of that in my own life thanks.

For me Avengers Endgame was easily my favourite film of the year. I also really enjoyed Alita Battle Angel.

I still haven't got round to watching Joker yet but I really want to.

I remember feeling a bit disappointed by Spiderman Far From Home, although I certainly didn't hate it.

Alitta Battle Angel is a good mention. I enjoyed that.

Avengers Endgame I also enjoyed. The irony is that those types of films are not my typical favourites.

Joker was ok but I also didnt think it was as brilliant as people were saying.

Ad Astra is worth a watch if you like space movies.

The only film I watched this year (very few), that was released this year was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and I thought it was watchable, but pretty crap. Single episodes of Stargate or The Next Generation were better than this big budget film.
