^ Alexithymia? Yes interesting, often associated with neurodevelopmental conditions and some psychiatric disorders as it says there.

^^ which parts in particular, Mr Nobody?

Do you feel like it characterised you all the time, even with family or anyone you're close to? How about in online interaction ?

It can be hard to be in-tune with our own emotions and the emotions of others when we are very anxious is social situations. Our brain isn't in a calm enough state to be assessing that. It's too busy thinking we are in danger.

Sometimes it can be a bit like when you google physical symptom and all sorts of conditions pops up and it turns out not to be that. Like when I thought I had appendicitis but it was just bread. Bread making my intestines throw a tantrum.

I think the Wiki page, whilst being informative, doesn't quite give the main points of it,

For me, it's more about the almost complete lack of obvious emotions,
Maybe it's partly due to the typical Male identity of being strong and silent etc.
But more and more, I just seem to be dropping more and more chunks of my emotional self over the years,

I think I was always quite devoid of typical emotions,
But it's also about not being able to connect with anyone on an emotional level,
Everything seems strictly on a professional level, business-like.
I tend to just mirror people or agree with them to move things along.
I often just cannot relate to other people in any real or meaningful way,

It's not upsetting, it's just a bit weird, and isolating,

I should probably have been born a Vulcan. lol

Did you feel this way as a child or is it something that has slowly evolved over time?

Lack of social interaction and depression can shut these things down as we disassociate from others and feel on the outside. I think it's a form of self protection and our brains adapting, so we can cope on our own as we find social interactions challenging. What I mean is, it's like a survival instinct rather than anything being wrong. Not sure if that makes sense! I mean with professional support and positive experiences it's something that can be relearned. But obviously a long process.

Sorry if this is personal and you'd rather not answer. I'd totally understand

(As it might be coming across, I'm not fond of the term 'personality disorder')

It sounds a bit like Asperger's Syndrome [legacy]/Autistic Spectrum Disorder/Clinical Depression... As it says in "Associated conditions" there's so many disorders in that area.

Makes perfect sense biscuits.

Sorry, just saw this,..
I know what you mean about survival instinct shutting down difficult emotions,
But I did have this odd thing going on as a child where difficult situations wouldn't really affect me the same ways as others,
I think I tended to see things factually rather than emotionally,
There could be some form of shutting things down, but it's difficult to say when or how that started,

I think, like Nanuq said, I was similarly in a family which restricted emotional expression, so I may have 'learned ' this behaviour early on?

I do have emotions, but they're usually very subtle , muted or understated,

Perhaps I could do with some serious catharsis in my daily routine to get to the bottom of things?
