My neighbour has given me some of their old German maps from the 1980s, and it shows the border between East Germany and West Germany, which Iâ€™m finding absolutely fascinating. Most roads and rail lines just end at the border. There wasnâ€™t just a wall in Berlin, but also another wall dividing the entire country from top to bottom.

Yes I have some niche interests!

Very interesting seeing how the border goes between two towns, and even splits villages in half. Iâ€™d like to find out more about that - usually itâ€™s only Berlin mentioned when you hear about the divided Germany. Anyway, Iâ€™m blabbering on....

^^^ yes Berlin was way deep into East Germany, there was a single road which went from the East-West German border to Berlin which West Germans could drive there; no turning off anywhere!

Some of the West Berlin railway and underground lines went through East Germany and vice versa, there were stations on them which were closed so that people couldn't use them to escape.

Some of the East German maps of Berlin didn't show anything of the Western side. Those parts of the map were just left blank.

I've been to Nicosia in Cyprus which is possibly the most similar city now to how Berlin was then - there's a Southern Greek-Cypriot part and a Northern Turkish-Cypriot part and you have to go through checkpoints to get from one side to the other, across a no-man's-land. Though I don't think there are any problems with most people crossing the border either way, there is a passport/ID card check.

^ itâ€™s a fascinating part of history! Iâ€™ve been lucky to visit Berlin, and Iâ€™m desperate to go there again. For me, Berlin is probably the most interesting city in the world - not just the Cold War stuff but also WW2.

Yes I should find out more about Cyprus, very interesting. I do know there is an abandoned airport, which had to close when the border went right through the middle of it.

I just discovered you can explore the International Space Station on Google Earth... so that's what I'm doing. Wow. I'm a messy person but at least my ceilings aren't cluttered. That place would give me serious OCD feelings.

The downstairs neighbour has decided that i've had enough of a welcome and has started with the music. It had been quiet for a week up to Saturday night when it was on during the evening - that's fair enough i thought. Then it was on when i got in from work earlier (only for a bit) and now he's started again. It's only a moderate annoyance because it's not really loud enough to be a problem and it's not yet been consistent enough to bug me, but..... i'd rather it wasn't there.

I should be cleaning but meh. Just got a phone call from my Aunt she rang to ask me if my cousins wife has unfriended me on f/b. I was like err no. Apparently she's walked out on my cousin after about 40 years of marriage, no warning, nothing, took all the furniture except for the bed, 2 chairs, a table and the telly. Can't believe it. The only explanation being well I've been fed up with you for the last 2 and half years.
Genuinely gobsmacked.

She seems to have unfriended my cousin F and my cousins N's wife on f/b for no reason as well.

^ Yeah, he must be devestated. Esp as outwardly theyve always seemed like a sound couple over the years.

She's going to carry on helping pay the mortgage till March which is when it ends. After that I guess she'll want to sell up and split the money (seemingly she's already seen lawyers and never said a word) so I guess he'll probably lose his home as well, I mean he'll have money but that's not really the point it's like putting a sledge hammer through someone's life.

She's rented a flat for 700 a month so God knows where she's getting all the money from. She works in a nursery or a school I think. He was the main wage earner. We've concluded she's found someone else tho no ones knows including my cousin.

Just letting a big pot of home made soup simmer, and waiting for a second washing to finish whilst catching a YouTube documentary,
It's been a crazy busy day at work so I'm shattered,.. but going to try some back exercises before bed otherwise I'll probably be crippled by it when I wake up tomorrow,..
My back has managed to steadily get worse day by day for the last week

yeah, I love a long soak in a hot bath,
but, stupid me, I have no central heating and haven't pulled the finger out yet and got it done, so no baths for the foreseeable future

during this whole Covid thing I just felt like getting a company in would have been either,. illegal, frowned upon, or taking a risk at best,
so I've just never bothered even trying
