Had a very similar experience only mine was a male teacher. He was deputy head and one of those really old-fashioned, almost military types. He seemed to enjoy having power over and humiliating defenseless children. This was also in the days when they could use the cane - and he frequently did - sometimes for no apparent reason whatsoever, other than I think he enjoyed it. He was a notorious nasty bastard. He was also a two-faced twat. Speaking to my parents at parents' evenings like butter wouldn't melt.

I still despise him even though the old twat is long dead.

Oh! I remember another teacher.
One day the police came in and arrested him.
He was a bit touchy-feely....

He was like that to other kids but he made sure he picked on me every time I was in his class by telling everyone how stupid I was (I wasn't, I was just quiet and shy). He also used to shake you and repeatedly thump you on the shoulder area. He was one of those teachers whom the whole school was scared of. He taught by means of fear.

When I look back on it, I think he was one of the most unsuitable people to work with children ever. How he ever got into that position is a mystery to me - although there have been plenty more like him!

But you should also be taking into account different backgrounds, learning styles, learning disabilities, speeds, targets etc.

It's really difficult - bad teachers just teach to the middle and the people at the bottom get left behind and the people at the top don't get stretched. Teachers fail inspections/observations if they're not doing it. It's the big hoop to jump through, along with behaviour management and achievement.
Good grief, that must be difficult. A consequence of bigger class sizes, I guess. Nope, I wouldn't want to be a teacher

Most of them. Especially the special needs ones.

Headmaster at my high school had bad anxiety, forever wringing his hands together at assembly time plus general nervouseness,he was still a good head teacher and kids respected him,I read that he won an award for his work a few years ago as well.

My old headmaster couldn't keep his head still, some kind of nervous twitch thing going on.

Several schools around here (includng mine) have had teachers fired for porn offences.

Also, I remember several instances where even the most mild mannered teachers lost it completely with some little sh*ts.
