Thumbs down Don't get your hopes up......

I'm approaching my 41st birthday and have suffered from this evil condition for most of my miserable, sad pathetic life, during which time I've tried all manor of corrective therapies (CBT, meditation, medication etc) to abolutely no effect whatsoever! It looks like I'm stuck with it but if I'm going down it's F****** COMING DOWN WITH ME!

Sorry if the above sounds a tad negative but I'm in a horrible place right now.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. But yes your thread title is extremely negative, which if it was just about yourself wouldn't be too bad but I think it's wrong to project that onto others. There are countless examples of people who have improved on here.

Thanks for all the messages of support and my sincere apologies to anyone who feels offended by the extreme nature of the thread. Of course it's a condition from which certain people can recover from, I just wish I was one of them

i think you just havent found the right program for change yet.

try reading gillian butlers book overcoming shyness and SA.

then focus on :

*changing your beleifs unconciously using thinkrightnow , nlp and hypsosis
*keeping your concious thinking rational and realistic using cbt
*controlling your state int he moment using body posture, breathing and nlp anchoring
*facing your fears one step at a time using exposure therapy. practicing to make the right behavioural decisions consistently e.g you always have 2 options 1- face the fear , 2- run away. its your free will. practice conistently choosing number 1 and expressing free will
*looking after yourself physically by eating right and exercising

stonechant, I hope you find some hope. I don't believe it's ever too late. Things can change. I'm not saying it is easy by any means. Best wishes.

What kind of CBT exactly? Did you see a therapist/was it a group kinda thing? I'm wondering if seeing a therapist would help - they might advise you about which path is right for you. Do you live with the anxiety as best you can or are you avoiding things? Like jobs and friends etc..?
