Sorry I'm playing catch up reading posts. My mum wasn't too bad (though didn't get it) but my dad was pretty cruel to me in the past. So I get how you feel, it's frustrating, lonely and depressing when family simply don't understand.

The original Star Trek series is pretty good. I loved it when I was a kid and haven't watched it since. Watched a few episodes recently on youtube and I'm surprised to find that it stands up pretty well. The special effects and studio sets look relatively weak of course but there's more substance in it than I thought there would be.
When I was little (like 5 or something) I thought Star Trek was kind of like a docudrama. As I grew up I was disappointed to find out that it was all made up
