Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
In my family we had Vauxhall Viva's, my dad had his own company and a fleet of leased Viva's as company cars that were renewed ever two years and I recall he had a dark green one, a light green one, a brown one almost bronze with a black roof, a reddish orange one , and a couple of blue ones.

Slightly off topic I saw a Triumph Dolomite mentioned in this thread, my favourite car, and I owned a few myself, last one was a 1974 Sprint I owned for 6 years untill I had to sell in the early 2000's : That's not mine, but it was the same colour without the sun roof. Lovely car, and so quick |

Up until I was a teenager we always had a Datsun sunny
Then after going through a financial bad patch my father bought this monstrosity: It used to turn heads (it was MUCH brighter than this one but did indeed have the word yellow written down the side just in case anyone missed it lolol) When your 13 a car like that can destroy your life lol Talk about having the p*** taken out of you, lol |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
Citroen 2CV - a car with lots of character!
Lada (can't remember the type) Toyota Camrey (not sure that's spelt right) Skoda (can't remember the type, but I think it was from about 1998). I distinctly remember the smell the engine made - something wasn't right with that car lol. Also I remember a time there were quite a few elderly relatives who had a Vauxhall Nova. |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
My dad made the unexpectedly cool decision to buy a 'Jeans' Beetle back in the late 70's, it was yellow with blue denim upholstery.
I do remember breaking down in a Vauxhall Viva on the way to Cornwall, we had to be transported to the campsite with our trailer tent. |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
We had a Mini, 3 Vauxhall Chevettes in succession (or 'shove-its' as my dad used to call them as they were so unreliable and had to be shoved to get them started), 3 Astras in succession.
Never had the obligatory Vauxhall Viva! But the neighbours did. |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
Yellow Lada Riva estate car, originally.
Then a newer, green version of the above. Later, Toyota 4WD estate (it lasted until a few years ago). I used to get quite a lot of teasing about the Lada especially, at boarding school, because other parents often had posher cars. |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
A Vauxhall Viva (mid 60s until about 1973?) and then a Ford Cortina which lasted for years.
We also had a wonderful car (small, probably from the late 1950s?) which I forget the name of, but the indicator was a large knob on the dashboard, so if we sat in the front we did the indicating for the driver! I'm not sure it didn't have to be double d clutched?.. what ever that means! |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
This is the one I remember with most fondness
A fiat mirafiori estate. I was also very fond of the fiat 124 which preceded it, it marked a departure from my dad's allegiance to ford and the series of cortinas which transported me from first communion to confirmation (it's a catholic thing). Fiats were exotic to me then and the mirafiori with its leather seats and funky orange paintwork were, I'm sure, responsible for the production of testosterone which propelled me to adulthood. |

A Morris Traveller, then another Morris Traveller.
Was good for my father's work. Plenty of room in the back for wellington boots, traps and cages, and dead animals. |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
I can remember pretty much all the cars my father had - barring his first which he had before I was born.
I have vague memories of him first having a mid-blue Morris Marina saloon - 'S' reg. It was a top of the range model with the 1.7 engine if I'm not mistaken. It had a matching blue draylon interior and I vaguely remember using the rear armrest as a makeshift child-booster seat! From there he moved onto what would have been a nearly new 'E' reg Toyota Carina (this shape - it would have been one of the last of this model). I remember it being white with a blue velour interior. It was a company car. I recall going to Cromer in it twice and again, using the rear armest as a booster seat on occasions! I remember the new smell it had too! Then we had two mk5 Escorts as company cars. A 'H' reg and a 'K' reg. Both were 1.4 LX's. The older one was in Radient Red and the latter in Wedgewood Blue. I know these cars come in for some stick but over about five years between the five, they covered some huge mileages without fuss. Well equipped for their time also. Then he no longer had a company car and had to move into private ownership. He then owned a 'H' reg Sierra 1.8 LX in Burgandy red (maroon). He had this for a year and again, covered about 20,000 miles in it during that time without any real issue barring the all-too-common central locking issue Fords of this era used to have. Then he had a black 'K' reg Golf 1.4CL in black. It was only a three door and only had...wait for it...a four speed gearbox...! It wasn't a brilliant car to be honest and he only had it for about eight or nine months. There were too many issues with it. That takes me up to about my teenage years, so I'll stop there! |

Re: The cars your family had when you were a child
When I was little my parents had a Ford Cortina estate, I hated that car with a passion!
I used to call it the headache car because I always ended up with a headache and being sick when I rode in it. Bastard car! |
