^ What a shame! They may regret it when flooding becomes an issue or when the revolution comes and they can't grow their own vegetables.

I think this makes me thankful to be doing low-carb. Almost all foods I have are wholefoods, apart from probably mayonnaise and sweeteners and cheat days.

I wish there was a polite way of telling someone to stop talking. “Stop talking, I feel like I want to snap your neck†isn’t it. “Stop talking, your voice makes me want to eat my own ears†won’t do. Confusing someone may work “Stop talking, I’m concerned about the oxygen levels hereâ€.

Re: Type what you're thinking about right now (11)
Watched a video on anger and social media yesterday and it talked about an old site that was made for people to rage and the users of the site enjoyed it. However when they made participants who were uni students view the rage sites the students actually ended up being in a more negative mood.
It has made me wonder if it's useful to post stuff that is on negative topics today? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aarFLyZc_NI |

Re: Type what you're thinking about right now (11)
Was promised a job and told I would be trained but today was told after serious consideration I won't be getting the job again. Have another job offer but not sure if I am getting that job as I haven't been given details that would make me employed there and the job also starts in May.
The jobs I have mostly got are minimum wage jobs that don't require an interview. Warehouse, Kitchen Portering and cleaning. If I am honest I am comfortable with Kitchen Portering but I am slow at it, other KP's are always faster than me so it's not a job for me. The warehouse jobs I have done were basic as in anyone can do them but I always struggle with the environment. It's like there is pressure to fit in and then if the job is so menial that you have breaks during the shift, it's like you are expected to speak to others. I find that I get conscious of looking awkward if I just stand when there is nothing to do. I think if I am honest I would never completely fit in with others. |

Aww Kooky
Cats make wonderful companions but a girl needs to hear more than meow speak sometimes. I'm certainly in no way meaning to play down how you are feeling, and please forgive me if it comes across in that way at all, but evenings can sometimes feel awfully long when you don't live by yourself too. What I mean, is that my husband is downstairs playing PC games, my son is in his room with his headphones and his playstation talking to his mates, and I'm in the bedroom posting on here. That's pretty much an average evening! I don't know if it's like this in other households but, yes, I can relate to the bit about it being nice to have someone to chat to |

^ They still need you and they will need you in a different way as they go through their teenage years. When parents start 'reclaiming their lives' and go off and leave their teenage kids to their own devices too much it doesn't work out well, believe me (I had one like that)!

Trying a paleo diet, but also living with the benefits of my experience with Keto/low-carb. I was just thinking of eating yam again but it has too many carbs to be keto friendly.

Re: Type what you're thinking about right now (11)
^ Amara, you're very motivated when it comes to diet and fitness. It's impressive
Just two days of going on the treadmill for 30 minutes and I'm already ready to throw the towel in @ indignant misanthrope - It's great that you've been getting out for long walks although not so good that you got lost. The HereWeGo App that NLH suggests sounds cool. I might mention it to my husband as we always get slightly loss even when we follow those public footpath maps. @ Nanuq - Oh yes, I can relate totally to not feeling needed anymore When you're doing the school run twice a day it takes over everything. And then there's after school clubs to ferry them to, school plays to attend, homework and school projects to help them with, books to be read at bedtime, bathing, organising play dates with friends and birthday parties, and during the school holidays I'd always take my son off out on my own with several of his friends in tow. Being a mum really was a full on 24/7 job but the most rewarding one ever. Although it was tough, especially being a single parent, I miss those times SO much Then they hit their teens and, bit by bit, they need you less and less as they, quite rightly, strive for their independence. At 18 I obviously still cook meals for my son and wash his clothes but that's pretty much it. When they have learnt to drive they don't even need you to give them lifts anymore! As you say Nanuq, how do you reclaim your life when you've got nothing to reclaim? It can be incredibly tough finding a new purpose in life when for so many years your sole purpose, and such a rewarding one too, was nurturing your child/children. |

The solution is a very young baby. You don't get a minutes peace and are never alone

She's almost four months old and I do think it could be a combo of teething or a growth spurt. She made up for the grumpy morning by sleeping four hours this afternoon.

Has anyone ever actually got their social anxiety to a manageable level where they can do the majority of things they want to in life without much of a struggle

Re: Type what you're thinking about right now (11)
I'd say that my SA has changed, maybe I can do things now that I couldn't before but I now wouldn't consider doing things that I would have done when younger. I don't feel like I'm ever going to be 'cured' of SA but maybe SA isn't really the most of my problems now. I'm really a complete mess but seem to be able to hide it from people! Maybe 'functioning mess' is a better description but 'unsustainable functioning mess'. Sooner or later the illusion will be broken.

Re: Type what you're thinking about right now (11)
I've said for ages everybody has a degree of sa, no one is completely free of it. Even social confident people have anxieties to a degree. It's important to recognise this fact.
|
|
|||
Re: Type what you're thinking about right now (11)
Well it helps me to recognise that fact. I'm not suggesting that there aren't degrees of sa, just that everyone has it to one extent or another. Obviously someone with severe sa is suffering more then a socially confident person with z minor anxiety and public speaking issues.
