Hi
A light bulb has come on making me realise that the biggest challenge I have in life has a name. That challenge being Social Anxiety. This I first recognised that I couldn***8217;t interact in the way others could when I was at university 30 years ago, but built a small group of close friends, until I started a relationship with someone who went onto physically and mentally abuse me. Since then except for two long term relationships I have been without any other social connections.
In my usual clumsy attempt at building up a friendship with someone I have known as a colleague for two years, I have the realisation that I am not just shy as I thought but really big barriers are in the way. Despite having a loving partner and children I have realised in life beyond family I am lonely and struggle with doing anything about it. Even family get together***8217;s and work meals out are a battle. Sitting there scared to speak and freezing up. Throw in strangers I run a mile and every excuse is made not to go or stay. Sorry for my rambling introduction, even nervous writing this, but I***8217;m glad I have found this group as we all understand what we face and can truly aid others in our own way. Thanks for hearing me out.

Hope so too, kind of realise so much entrenched stuff from a long time ago I need to get sorted. But that only explains why it’s got worse. Wish I could give myself a shake and all would be fine. Thank you

Hopefully this forum will help. It***8217;s good to know that others feel some of the same anxieties as you do. There***8217;s always a friendly soul on here when you get bogged down with the struggles of living with S.A.
