Gesticulation
Do you gesticulate? I do.
That is, I make gestures during speech. I'm quite expressive with my hands. I'm not a wild gesticulator though, some people take gesticulation too far! I think I developed this as a kid because I wanted to communicate with the emphasis being less placed on my voice. I had a lot of hang ups when growing up about my speech. Some still remain. Just wondered how many other gesticulators we have here? It's a great word. Say it slowly. Let it roll around your mouth. Ges-tic-u-late |

Re: Gesticulation
At meets, I have on occasion sat on my own hands to stop myself doing it. I get self-conscious about it because I think people see it as aggressive sometimes or something.
Or perhaps just annoying. I like to see others gesticulate, personally. It shows they are enthusiastic about what they are saying and sometimes it is amusing to watch. How much can one woman talk about gesticulating? |

Re: Gesticulation
I think I do, but I'm not that conscious of it.

Re: Gesticulation
If there's anyone here who gesticulates but would like to stop, i have some good advice. Cut your finger off!
You become so self aware of your hand that you always try to hide it, rather than flutter it around in front of you. Gesticulation is just a habit really but i wouldn't be at all surprised if it's a common thing with Social Anxiety sufferers, as it literally gives you something to do with your hands. |
