Unhappy hello from Somerset

Hi all, not sure what to say really, but pleased that there is somewhere on-line that these kinds of problem are dealt with.

- I've spent most of my life trying to explain my actions to various people that have no idea what I am talking about as they are constantly wanting more information - WHY are you like that Zara, you don't SEEM like that with me...

...Grumble, yes I am stressed, with people asking me to define my condition or prove it every 5 minutes family are as bad as strangers in this respect.

I'll read around the forum see if there are many question answered I have on how to cope with people.

cheers.

Hi Zara. I can relate to what you are saying. This is unfortunately how it goes with a non-physically obvious condition. Doesn't matter how many times I may have mentioned my SA, most people I know still can't seem to really accept it. They may even try to 'help' by saying "well, we're all like that sometimes you know." It's compounded by the fact that I'm not the sort of person to make a fuss about it, and even play it down a lot in front of others. I know this doesn't help.

Anyway, sorry for going on! Welcome, and I hope you find it useful here.

Hi Zara, i know this feeling. I talked to a friend about depression of another friend and she said something like "it is her whole attitude why she is like that, no wonder...". This hit me hard (she doesnt know of my SA and depression) and showed once again that mental health issues are not accepted as an illness but are seen as a personal weakness. I tried to educate her a little bit, but dont know whether it has arrived. She then went on to say that she has a more positive approach to life and this is the reason why she doesnt have such problems. I could just slap her for that. She is one of those people who in the midst of a depression would tell others "do not think negative all the time, no wonder you are feeling down".

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Places like this are extremely helpful when nobody else seems to understand just how difficult things can be for people who suffer with SA. My family unfortunately are blind to how hard things are no matter how much I try to explain and they too are always on my back and making mean remarks.

I went to Weston Super Mare not long ago for the first time it seemed like a really nice place I was to scared to get off my bike though and came home almost immediately lol. One day I hope I can just go and chill out by the sea.

All the best,

Sparks.
