nope just bung syringe up your nose squirt and the water goes up one nostril and out the other. seemed very odd when i first tried it, now it doesn't bother me.

i think you can buy something else called a neti pot but i wasn't impressed with that to much tilting sucking and blowing, syringe does all the work for you.

Yeah, it was the neti pot I had read about somewhere. Another question that's probably silly (and feeling partly awkward cos I know I've kinda hijacked RS's question - sorry ) - how do you get a syringe? Is it as easy as walking into Boots and asking for one? Did you say there's a tube thing you also need? I'm a bit paranoid about people thinking I'm needing it for some sort of illicit purpose or something

Normal syringe don't really work you need the special bit on the end so it seals against the opening of your nostril.

I've found it! Think I'll give it a bash. One nostril is bleeding a lot at the moment because it's so irritated and the steroid spray doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. I'll try the syringe before trying any more sprays.

Cheers for your help

^ only downside of the syringe is that it's only really good until you get the next bit of pollen stuck up your nose but it is nice to be able to sleep at night(window shut) with out waking up sneezing or not being able to breath.

i steer clear of all steroid based nasal sprays they give me nose bleeds and mood swings. same with the antihistamine pills they make me depressed and i sleep 24 hours a day.

i've got one called allergy defence which is also labelled nazaleze. just cornstarch and mint i think.

i even tried the woodyknows things - http://www.woodyknows.com/ unfortunately i ordered the wrong size so never got to see if they were any good.

^ Yeah the antihistamines are doing nothing except making me feel more yucky than usual. I was given the steroid spray after a specialist guy discounted me having a nasal polyp and felt that it was just allergies. He said the spray would get things under control, but the bleeding started about 3 months ago in one nostril and it's showing no signs of stopping. I don't think the steroid spray is helping, but maybe it's cos the pollen is making things worse, when I already have bother at the best of times.

My main problem is that I wake up during the night with my nose and eyes streaming. I'll blow my nose (sorry for anyone having their dinner), but the linings of the nose are all swollen and inflamed anyways by then, so it just keeps coming. What I then tend to do is fold and roll an individual sheet of toilet paper into a lil nasal tampon and shove them up the relevant nostril(s)

Nasal irrigation and uninterrupted sleep sounds much better though

some hayfever tips-

hang your washing inside
shower as soon as you get home if you've been out in pollen
if you've got long hair tie it up tight so the pollen can't get in it
keep windows shut on high pollen count days
nasal irrigation
prevalin or allergy defence are natural and create a pollen proof lining inside your nose
cycling or other exercise that gets your heart rate up is good for clearing sinus's(exercise bike?)
tea is also good for clearing your sinus's something to do with caffeine opening up the blood vessels
go spend time on the coast if you know the wind is blowing inland at that time.
keep your windows shut at night pollen falls like rain at night when the temps drop.
make sure your car has got a fresh pollen filter/drive with windows shut if you've got air con
go swimming...it's good for unwinding as hayfever can make you really tetchy plus there's no pollen in the water.
avoid any decongestants like sudafed they're addictive and can increase anxiety
avoid steroid sprays they cause nose bleeds and can cause mood swings
avoid anti histamines unless you like sleeping like the dead and getting depressed. (benadryl is evil stuff apparently people use it as a recreational drug in some countries)- http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...iphenhydramine how the **** this stuff passes medical testing and gets into pharmacies is beyond me.
chilli is also a good decongestant as is garlic
eat a raw onion for instant sinus relief(also friend and partner relief no ****ers gonna come any where near you after chewing on a raw onion)
ask your doctor about pollinex quattro
avoid a steroid injection(kennalog) unless you want a skin cavity or want to turn into the incredible hulk

The hard drive on my Mac failed a while back. I had loads of photos in iPhoto. I had backed them up on an external drive, but I'd copied the folder it uses to store them all. It creates folders for every date you have pictures so they're in hundreds of subfolders. Is there an easy way to extract the files in one go so I can get them in one place to sort them out?

Has anyone ever tried Nettle Tea, and is it palatable? The lassie in Holland and Barrett told me it'd be good for my asthma and hayfever, but I just can't stomach green tea, so if its quite strong and potent, I'd be as well forgetting it! Any experience from others would be great!

^ I fairly sure the larger Tesco and ASDA stores have little machines that do just that, and if I remember rightly, Jessops also have something similar. And not a dumb question at all. What follows is a dumb question...

Was it stupid of me to forgo the chocolate bit at the bottom of the mint Cornetto I just ate in belief that by doing so it somehow makes me more health conscious and an all round better being?

What's wrong with me?

Literally, after having just come back from a long walk, i sit down and, within minutes, i'm snorting and coughing trying to rid myself of mucus and clear my airways - yet, during the walk, i was completely fine/clear.

I know exercise helps open up the passages (or something), but the difference is substantial and i'm just glad that i'm not in company atm because it must sound disgusting. I'm starting to wonder if it's the dog. It could be, and it may be the reason that my hayfever is really, pretty bloody bad as i was living elsewhere this time last year.

^ The first Union flag was created in 1606; at the time Wales was united with England so it was apart of the Kingdom of England. Wales then is represented by the English part of the flag.

Does anyone else feel trepidation at thought of going out when you've spent most of the day in the house lolloping around? I sort of fancy going for a walk down to the shop of wonders, but I just have this horrible feeling that the girl that serves there, and who always serves there, will know what I've been up to. There'll be something about my demeanour, my gait, the cut of my jib, that will set off alarm bells in her head and she'll know I've been lolloping. In fact, I go there so often on days of lolloping that I bet when I walk in she'll be like, 'Oh, it's that lolloper again.'

Bollocks. What to do...

Note: I'm not using the word 'lolloping' as a euphemism for personal fun-time, you sickos.

Nah, it weren't for sweets but for this, the finest of liquids ever synthesized by man:

^ What a boy!

So my Dad's printer has been running low on black ink for donkies and our pooters keep informing us of this each time we print something. We keep saying how amazing it is that it's still working, but my suspicions are now beginning to tell me that it's using the color cartridge to do it's dirty work.

Is this so?

^^ I was under the impression that you was drinking Coke, which is indeed the best drink ever, until you said it was Pepsi Max, perhaps the worst drink ever.

Death to those who choose Pepsi Max over Coke! Disgusting, disgusting people.

^^ As someone who drinks both Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Max, Cherry Coke and regular Pepsi on revolving basis, I am the most qualified to objectively determine which is the best. And after carrying out numerous studies, and meta-analyses of those studies, I can assure you unequivocally and earnestly that Pepsi-Max is superior. Deal with it. It's science.

^^^ Yup, I'm with biscuits. Printers are liars.
