Hannibal is utterly brilliant but really gruesome. Not on the list, The West Wing, which is my favourite programme ever, then comedies such the IT Crowd, Flight Of The Conchords and my favourite Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.

I'm surprised no one other than Wulfgar mentioned The Wire. I feel silly for mentioning it because I've not watched it myself but most people that have rate extremely highly and I often see it in most Top Ten TV Shows of All Time lists.
My choices would be: Breaking Bad - amazingly season 5 is even BETTER then any of the others! Sopranos - one of the greatest Better Call Saul - showing great promise Peep Show Spaced - worth a look if you like peep show The Office - both english and american versions House of Cards - my current favourite OZ Murder One - unfortunately short lived, too clever for americans apparently. Worth watching just for Stanley Tucci's ultra-machiavellian performance. The Cops - BBC 2 show, best british police show ever imho Band of Brothers - epic
