Oven chips
How do you do yours? Do you home make them? Put them in an air fryer? Or like me, but frozen oven chips and stick them in the oven?
I get the crinkle cut ones from Lidl but they take an hour on gas mark 7 to cook! I'm still waiting Says on the packet 30 mins on gas mark 7 Why do they take so long ?! |

Re: Oven chips
I make them with fresh potatoes in the air fryer if I have time!
Then other times I have frozen ones in the air fryer. I love chips but don't have them that often. What does gas mark mean? I've only ever used electric ovens and they take about 20/25 min in an electric fan over at 220 degrees. |

Re: Oven chips
They take so long in the oven, always more than the time stated on the packet to not be mushy.
I air fry them now, they cook better on the outside and only take 22 minutes at 190c. |

Re: Oven chips
Lidl spicy potato wedges are pretty good,
And just peeling spuds coating them with spices and olive oil and shoving them in the oven is just as good, Usually takes raw potatoes about 40 mins in the oven at 180 to be perfect, Frozen shop-bought stuff is usually about 25 mins at 180c Sounds like there might be something wrong with your oven Magnolia |

Re: Oven chips
I like oven chips but I cook them in the halogen oven . They cook much faster and really crisp the chips nicely

Re: Oven chips
I like getting the triple cooked beef dripping Aldi oven chips, makes me feel aspirational. I wouldn't go as far as the sweet potato variety though, I know my place. Look what happened to Icarus.

Re: Oven chips
ASDA Straight Cut Chips are my favourite! They say you can't make love to an ASDA Straight Cut Chip but I disagree!
Oh and I cook them for about 25 minutes in the fan oven. |

Re: Oven chips
The chunky champions ^ I like my chips thick and fulfilling. I enjoy these too and some wedges, especially the McCain Spicy ones. I think the firecracker ones might do me in though. |

Re: Oven chips
Double check the ingredients list on the ones you buy.
Aldi seems to be the only one that does one simple straight cut with just two ingredients potatoes () and oil. All the other brands and ranges have dextrose, diphosphates, rats tails & puppy tails. And yeh, air fryer all the way. I interlace mine with vinegar, salt, black pepper, chilli powder & tumeric. To the point where you can't see much natural chip colour. A king's feast! If you're using chilli powder be gentle at first, you must be eighteen! |

Re: Oven chips
^no, you don't have to light modern gas ovens or hobs.
They are great to cook with, in terms of controlling the heat, heating up much quicker etc. They probably are slightly more dangerous to have maybe. The thing I struggle with with ours is cleaning the hob, because the top bits are really heavy cast iron and you have to lift them off to clean around the burners. I think in the future I'd like an electric hob where you can easily wipe it all down. |
