What gender do you chat to the most online?

Female, don't have any male "friends".
I don't think about it in terms of gender really, I just seem to get on better with girls for some reason. I don't do or like much in the way of 'lad' interests so maybe thats why.
And I don't really aproach people so its not like I'm being a perv just adding girls, its people from arranged PM buddies and those who have added me.

Don't really chat online. I did when I was (roughly) 14-17. That was about 5 or 6 male friends from school. About a dozen girls I'd never actually met who lived in exotic places like Hawaii and Wigan, introduced through group chats with one of the male friends from school. Around 20 people from a forum dedicated to a semi obscure videogame series. This last group had a predictable male majority.

it doesn't matter to me which gender i'm conversing with in a PM.

IRL though, i feel more comfortable talking to men.(opposite sex).

other women rarely seem interested in talking 2 me.
i often wonder why.

Guys, I probably speak to 4 guys on a current day to day basis, 3 of which I've known for around 5/6 years (one I've actually met). I find it easier to just chat to guys, I don't no why though, maybe interests and the same type of humour.

Out of all the time on the internet I made one really good girl mate but we just started to annoy each other in the end as girls normally do in friendships.

but in all seriousness ..probably 70-80% male in pm's etc


although outside of pm's (like on forums) it seems to be a bit less one sided.




I notice though IRL ..whilst I have quite a few male friends, i don't really have much female friends.

If I am being super strict on the definition of the word "friend" ..then probably only 1 female friend. By super strict i mean they live not too far away, you have their number, they have yours ..and you text and go out and socialize from time to time


If I am being less strict then i could maybe add more?

and there are quite a few females in maybe the no mans land between acquittance and friend. Like you see them from time to time, you get on well ..and are friendly ..etc, but you only ever see them AT THAT ONE PLACE.

but yeah, i should probably make an effort to make more female friends, balance things out a bit....

and also those female friends will surely have other female friends... and they might be hot female friends...

Thinking back, I've only had one female online friend. We talked for a year maybe, before we lost contact.

Overall, at the moment, mostly guys but it does vary. If you looked at my FB chat and FB private message history, it's mostly women I talk to (mostly those that went to my all girl secondary school or college) even though I don't see them any more. If you looked at my MSN history and PM's, it's mostly male. If you look at my skype, though I have more male contacts, it's mostly females I talk to or spend more time talking to. Also those females I've known from school/college etc don't tend to use MSN hence why I speak to them more on FB and skype.

I don't feel I have a preference to either gender but I do find I will talk to female friends more when i've got more time, when i'm less depressed and when I can put more energy into speaking to them as I like to be quite positive and upbeat with them, for whatever reason and generally need to absorb more information about them for future conversations so need to have the time to actually listen to them more 1-1. With guys, I think they let it slide a lot more if you're slow at replying and such like so you can multi-task at the same time. If i'm dating someone I tend to speak to more females then males so that can influence who I talk to in terms of gender.

I was expecting different results. Would be interesting to expand it further to each individual poll question i.e if a female chats to mainly males who does the most initialising of first PM's/messages etc.

Mostly girls in private messaging. In chatrooms its a mixture but given there's more men using them I guess I chat to more men in those situations.

Hmmm interesting. Well when I did it would be more women. That seemed to be though because when I talked with guys it was just more curt and succinct. Just for swapping information, there seemed to be less connection. This is weird because I get on better with guys in real life. But I have noticed this tendency through other forms of communication. A lot of guys seem to prefer chatting in real life versus the phone. Even with good male friends who I can talk to for ages in real life, when it goes on line we both seem to get bored really quickly. It has a different dynamic with the opposite sex and that includes purely platonic friendships.
