^ Would you consider trying diet coke/pepsi or would that be a step too far?

Diet coke/pepsi?!!!

Although you make a very good point, Dougie! After all, less sugar means less calories. Thus increasing the overall speed in which I reach my weight loss destination. As well as being healthier.

Hi everyone

I've got an important announcement to make! From this day forward I will only drink diet co

^ I know the prospect is pretty horrifying to some people though! And some people just really dislike the diet versions.

But you could try replacing one of your daily drinks with a diet one and see how you get on....(i assume this is what you may want to do to me right now )

That's a very good idea, Dougie! I think gradually changing your diet is the key! Although I have in the past got into the habit of losing that key. But this time I'm going to give it my best try and unlock that diet door with that key. Or something like that.

I've also got you a nice foot warmer. After all, the cold weather isn't our buddy!

^ Yeah that's what I've done before when I've made diet changes (although I haven't given up sugar, i couldn't be without chocolate completely!)

Thankyou, I'm going to be nice and toasty now

I'm not weighing myself either. It just adds unwanted stress and expectations being dashed sometimes.

I know that over time, I will lose weight if I do the right things.

I'm afraid so, Dougie! I've been brave so far! Maybe even courageous! I think it's been about 5 days since I started my sugarless diet. Although I still drink Coke/Pepsi. As well as NY coffee sachets that have added sugar in them. But because it's liquid, I don't think that counts.

Thanks Genovese, I appreciate it. And absolutely on getting easier. It's probably fair to say that this isn't my first rodeo. Which reminds me, I appreciate that you want me back in the saddle! After all, I can read between the lines! But you need to be patient! And to put your mind at ease, I'm still percolating where it really matters!

Anyway, that's enough diet chat for the evening!

Well done Chess, that's great going!

I came here to say that my diet is going terribly of late and my self esteem is in the toilet. Sigh

Thank you Tubbs, I appreciate it. Although I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't been going smoothly for you. I hope it improves for you! I've lost count of the times I want to quit. I think the only reason I've managed to make it this far is because I'm trying my best not to tap into how I'm feeling too much. Otherwise it would feel like I'm getting tag teamed by low self esteem and hunger pangs. I've also been making myself a round of toast and a cup of coffee when I feel like cheating. Which has been helpful in making the hunger less pangy. Or something like that. And again, I hope it improves for you!

It really is. It’s especially hard to motivate yourself in these cold months where most of us just want to not move from the couch, wrap up and comfort eat.

I saw this thing about a type of capsule you swallow that turns into a ballon in the stomach and self dissolves. Not suggesting you need that but rather just mentioning it as it’s quite interesting what treatments are available.

https://amp.theguardian.com/society/...for-first-time

If it’s not too invasive (feel free not to answer), how did you find the (I presume) stomach infections? Just curious as a needle phobe how painful they are. The gag reflex with swallowing that pill in the link is probably on par.

I found this video very interesting. She is a licensed therapist in the US, so not just a random person having some opinions lol.

Basically to sum it up because the video is long.....BMI was never meant to be used to calculate individual people's weight it was meant to be used for monitoring changes in whole populations. The research does not show that people who are overweight are less healthy than those who are thinner. Traditional "diets" which are restrictive are not really natural and can often lead to disordered eating and weight cycling.
But mainly the things that make the most positive difference to people's health is eating an overall balanced diet and being generally active and doing some exercise.

Warning, she does use some swear words. (If the research part is too much the bit about what to do and how people can start to help themselves starts at roughly 2hrs 10mins.)

"Diets and weight stigma are making you mentally ill"

I didn't realise it had been so long since I'd posted in here. Total weight loss is now 14.6kg.

I was really down and disheartened for a bit. Persistence is key! Eye of the tiger!

That's great that you've lost 14.6kg, Tubbs! My weight loss is about 8lbs so far. It should be more, but I've had a few detours since I started in January. Oops! But as you said, persistence is key! And so is limiting my nibbles!

Hey everyone, I'm joining the diet club.

Over the past two years I've put on 5st 10lbs, mostly through comfort eating. I really have to do something about it. If I lost half what I've put on I'd be so much more comfortable and get some energy back.

The long haul of it is always scary, but here goes nothing.

Best of luck Sophie

I need to lose weight too, I'm finding it really difficult to mentally start. I've put on weight and lost strength over the winter, I started couch to 5k last year and wanted to try again but I've been getting knee pain and the physio said I need to build strength before I can try running again.
I comfort eat/stress eat and need to change that.

Don't be downplaying your achievements Chess, that's around 1lb a week - slow and steady is the way to sustained weight loss, according to people wiser than I am. Well done!

Best of luck to everyone trying to live healthier
