Does anyone have a "recovery" place?
By that I mean somewhere you like to go to when things get hard, to clear your mind or even to just stare blankly without having to worry too much about being around others.
Today, after being depressed all day and eventually having a panic attack, me and my boyfriend took a shortcut through the main uni lecture building/cafeteria on the way back to his place. In the daytime its crowded, but in the evening, save for a few people also making shortcuts or society meets in the lecture halls, it's pretty much deserted. We ended up staying there for about an hour while I calmed down, we sat down, talked and wandered around. It was incredibly peaceful, and I actually felt safe there. I plan to go there more in the future if I've had a bad day. Also, every now and then when I feel upset I end up going to the pet shop. Cooing over hamsters also calms me it seems (if only where I live allowed pets). So, does anyone else have a place like that? |

However, I do see my family occasionally - they live in a small village in the fenlands of Cambridgeshire, where it's incredibly peaceful and relaxing, so I like to go there and chill out. This only happens every 3-4 months though. I really should visit them more often, I suppose. |

I also used to find it really peaceful hanging round the main uni building in the evening and the cafeteria when it was more or less deserted- know what you mean. Made a nice change from my hall of residence which was a bit hellish for a shy person. Also liked sitting in a square near uni with lots of nice trees and pigeons to watch.

Re: Does anyone have a "recovery" place?
i lived beside a foresty area for a while so it was a nice place to escape to.
nowadays though, living in a share house there is nowhere to really feel comfortable, i could walk somewhere but it's a long walk to the nearest park. plus i get so cold outside because i don't have a heavy coat. so i just sit in my room and wait for negative feelings to pass. |

I also like the deserted uni buildings at night. Working quietly in the library with some interesting books or working in the computer room after everyone else has gone home... no mobile phones or chattering... lovely Also, I grew up in the countryside and used to walk my dog through the fields and go sit by the river and chill when stuff was getting on top of me. The seaside is also a good place. I personally feel it is impossible to be unhappy or stressed at the seaside. You are on the beach, it's sunny, you have candyfloss, you're paddling your feet in the water and smell the lovely salty air... that's just bliss as fas as I'm concerned. I have promised myself I'll live by the sea one day, luckily me bf also loves the sea as much as I do. Oh, and the bath! When I have mountains of uni work to do and I am sad and tired and lonely I just go in the bath and read a good book and forget everything! It's like being in bed with the duvet over your head, nothing bad can happen there! |

My Home is my haven, don't invite anyone one around, just go out if want to see anyone, my mum is allowed around seriously though!

Re: Does anyone have a "recovery" place?
Well generally my study, I can sit and reflect in there. I'd say my home also but it depends if my lodger is in.
My favourite place is the woods where I walk my dog. It's a 15 minute drive but I can perambulate along the forest paths and not see a soul except for the occasional flighty deer. Breath in the pine infused air, listen to the bird song and gaze over the tree tops while I collect my thoughts |

Re: Does anyone have a "recovery" place?
When I lived at home I used to go for drives sometimes, I find driving very relaxing. Or to a spot in the country where I could sit in the car with a great view in front.
Now I live alone, I've always got plenty of privacy (too much probably). |

But other than that usually I'll get out into the countryside and find somewhere as peaceful as possible, at home that's easy, I live in a village, so walk 100 yards up the road and I'm in open countryside. Bit more difficult at uni as there are more people about but I'm next to the sea and the mountains and there's Anglesey as well so there's plenty of places around, just have to hope there's nobody there. |

Yeh, either the garden shed, with my heater on at this time of year or my caravan in North Yorkshire.
Here tonight, cosy and warm, away from the outside world. Bliss! |

Re: Does anyone have a "recovery" place?
Since I've lived near the sea, I've had a place along the coastline, somewhere where I know I can't be disturbed, where I can hear the sea, relax, calm down, think.
Its nice to have a place which no one really knows of. But from personal experience, make sure at least one person knows of this place, just incase things go really south, that person will mean the world to you, even if you don't really know it yet. |
