Hi everyone! I'm probably a 'Gerry' in comparison to most of you here, as I will be 68 this year ... I live in Reading, Born with a largely invisible disability, but 12 years ago, started using a wheelchair. I've never felt I've 'fitted in' amongst other people, so I suppose that's led me to become a bit of a loner and somewhat introverted, although I really wish I wasn't. Over the past 10 years, have been trying to socialise more but just don't understand why and how people engage in small talk. I have had short-term memory loss for decades, so small talk where the subject chops and changes, makes me feel an 'Outsider' and 'Stupid'. I don't 'Label' people, as everyone at some point in their lives has (had or still has) some 'Cross to bear', which can impact on how they 'tick' and these things make people act the way they do. I therefore, don't make snap assessments as to what people are like. Hope people find this ramble enlightening!

Hi Footloose1949.

Always enjoy reading a good ramble! I completely understand what you mean about small talk - it's not just how people engage in this way, but also the why, which can be difficult and can emphasise SA. It sounds like you're very understanding of others so I do hope others are as thoughtful to you.
