Are you sure it was because of the coat? That does seem like a strange reaction to it, unless you were also wearing a fedora or something. The receptionist turning their head could have been completely unrelated.

Social anxiety is about not interpreting reality properly though, isn't it? Believing that situations are harmful when they're not, believing people are judging you when they're not, etc. It's when a person's reactions don't appropriately match the reality of a situation. From what you describe, it just doesn't make any sense. If you genuinely believe that the receptionist thought your new coat was somehow inappropriate for your job role and that you shouldn't be wearing it, and in response to that thought turned their head so as not to look at/talk to you because they were so disgusted, then... fine. It really could have been down to anything at all though, so it doesn't make any sense to assume anything. Just continue saying hello and being friendly as usual, otherwise it'll be how you're feeling about it now that causes a situation with them in future.

Had a nice experience working with some children last few days. As the years role by I found there wasn’t an age group that didn’t cause me anxiety in some form, but I think working more with kids might be an opportunity to find some connection to life again. Children are mirrors of our own behaviour, and if I’m withdrawn and quiet I am virtually invisible to them, and that is quite a powerful, although painful, lesson to learn. They’re the most honest therapists.

I have certainly felt that people have treated me differently when I have worn ''smart modern'' clothes vs some very old clothes I liked but which were looked down upon by the fashion police. Although my body language etc has also been noted at times by people who look down on anyone who seems different. If I'm feeling relaxed I'm accepted.. if I'm withdrawn etc.. not so much. Just my experience. I did post an ''on topic'' post earlier which I deleted. As in a small achievement. I decided it was ''too small''...

Not today, but yesterday I went to a meditation class just down the road. I've had my eye on it for a while but have previously just done the easy thing and put off going. It was a pretty great experience and I chatted to a few people there without too much of the usual new context awkwardness. Think I'm going to try to make it a weekly thing.

^Well done Appear.

I went to town today and bought some new clothes for work. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I ventured to the theatre today, on my own.
Luckily it's a small theatre and most of the people there were older, which I find much less intimidating than being around younger people.
And I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Buddy Holly story.

I used the film developing kit I got for Christmas for the first time this afternoon and it was successful! I'm so happy. It was quite straightforward really, once I'd worked out the order and timings for everything. The roll is hung up drying now so I can't scan it yet, but from holding it up to the light it looks like everything is as it should be.

The kit came with a big black cloth bag with arm holes in it so I used that. I practised with a spare roll a few times outside of the bag, winding it round the loop thing in the canister, then tried it with my eyes closed until I knew how to do it without looking, and it was fine (although I nearly cut myself getting the roll open in the bag). Once the film is inside the canister you can take the canister out of the bag since it's designed so that light can't enter from the hole you pour the chemicals into, so there's no need for a dark room. I have a scanner that takes film so just use that on the negatives I've had developed elsewhere.

I was following an ambulance, they were only going about 40-45 so I'm guessing whoever was in there was in a very unstable condition. Anyway, I bloody overtook them didn't I It was quite nerve wracking due to us being the only vehicles on the road, night time, and the fact the ambulance was being escorted close behind by a FECKING POLICE CAR! I think I managed to do it without speeding I could easily have just stayed behind all the way home.

(It was last night, but I'm posting in here due to being quite the rebel).

At times anxiety does get the better of me. But on a positive note, it doesn't always get the better of me and sometimes I think sod you what's the worst that could happen

I hosted an open evening at a makerspace tonight. This means greeting visitors, showing them round and answering any questions they may have (or finding a nearby expert)
Luckily just three people turned up tonight, so it wasn't unbearable.

Oooh, no, it wasn't an angel poop then, those are few and far between, unfortunately - the world needs more of them!

^ You had a Lidl or moved away to a Lidlless place? Either way

What's the reason for looking above the cabinets? Hazelnut chocolates is quite a score, coulda been an old box of Twiglets or something.

First time on the motorway to pick up my dad from the airport. It was fine, not too busy. Easier than some of the other parts of the journey. Also I had one of those 'I'm a proper adult' moments. 'Look at me driving on the motorway, like a proper adult'.
