Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
Hello
Well, I've been on the forum for sometime think my username might give it away. I have been meaning to attend a meet but laziness or fear usually kicks in and I haven't been. Would you meet someone that you have been chatting to online that you met from the forum? Just I'm rubbish at making/keeping to arrangements he lives a good distance away and I'm a bit unsure about meeting esp if I couldn't do it when the time come newbie2013 |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I'd go to a meet up if it weren't for my agoraphobic tendencies
I do have that as an aim for the future though. Its a good way of socialising. People will know how you feel. |

I think Ive probably met around 100 people online irl, the first person I met online irl was when I was 14 From friends to another forum clubbing meet ups to potential boyfriends.

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
Yeah, like probably 100 people at least. I was really anxious the first few times I did it but now it's a normal thing for me. That's all been in groups though, the only people I've met one on one without having met them before are women from dating sites.

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I'd like to meet some people off here, there are a few people who I have been speaking to who I'd like to meet and I'd also like to go to a group meet off the board aswell.
The thing that puts me off though is that people won't like me, I wont know what to say, other people will think I am weird, nobody will like me, it will be really awkward, all the usual thoughts which just seem to keep cropping up, funnily enough, just been writing about all these for CBT homework. Part of me thinks just do it, the other person will be just as scared/ worried / nervous as I am, but then I just think all the usual crap about myself and that I will be wasting peoples time because I won't talk or won't be able to act normal and I will look weird / stupid and will be really boring. Can't win with these SA thoughts! |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I have met a few girls from dating websites which didn't really turn into anything. I am also open to meeting with people from here should the opportunity arise

I went to a film meet from here once. Me and the person who organised it were the only ones who turned up. Was a little bit awkward. |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I've met people online after chatting in other forums or on Twitter or something - sometimes one on one too. I just always tell someone where I'm going so that they can be my emergency call if I need one - or I just tell the person I'm meeting I can't stay for long so that if I feel uncomfortable I have a getout. So far most have gone well.

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I've met a few online people that I've known from other sites. I've only met one person from here one-on-one and attended a group meet as well. They've been as I expected really with mostly good results, even though it was terrifying and awkward. I actually found the SAUK group meet the worst in terms of anxiety because 1. it was in a group and I'm awful in groups and 2. I didn't know the people that well and everyone else I've met online I've known pretty well.

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I've only met people from a forum when it has been a forum for a course I'm studying, and the meeting is just going to a tutorial together and talking afterwards or something, not a meetup for fun or anything.
I think I would meet people that I've met online if we had a lot in common, so we had something to talk about. I'd probably prefer meeting one to one but I don't know if I'd be brave enough when it came down to actually going |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I've never met anyone from the forums, but I did meet someone that I had been exchanging letters with and chatting online to for 2 years. It was probably the worst experience of my life so far.

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I met a group of people from another forum I chat to (a common, shared interest). I was incredibly nervous but in the event it was amazing. I suspect for younger people this sort of meeting is more normal. For me it was incredibly strange but I absolutely loved it!

Horrible things ensued upon his arrival leaving me pretty distressed at the end of each night. After he left, I kept beating myself up about being so naive, but others told me that they, too, wouldn't have foreseen what happened. I always thought I was a good judge of character, but in my experience, you never truly know who you're talking to online. |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
Yeah, have met quite a few off here. Have spent a few days with some of them too. I'm always anxious but everyone has been fine and it's nice being with people who suffer similar issues as we can understand each other.

I've been to SAUK group meets (including one today ), but I've not yet met anyone one-to-one from here. It's something I'd like to work towards, though. |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I have only ever met one person in real life I 'met' online, through a Facebook group.
After messaging back and forth for a year or so, and eventually Skyping/Facetime, we met up in person. I flew 1/4 of the way round the world on 3 flights, and I *hate* flying... It was important that we met with no expectations, so we both kind of pretended there were none, but in reality we both knew there were. We got along so great, and I was surprisingly relaxed the whole visit! A few days into the trip, it turned into a 'real' relationship. I'm glad I took the chance and done it. |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
not sure you can meet someone online, - one profile can message another profile I suppose,
Skype's possibly the closest you get to meeting online. anyone who uses the meets section, or a meet-up group or who has used a dating site is bound to meet people irl eventually. if it seems weird, it's probably best to just see that it's just another, more considered way for people to meet,. rather than just random, chance encounters. |

Re: Have you or would you meet someone you met online?
I've met loads of people that I knew first online. The first was back in 1997 (yes the internet did exist then!)
