^^ Have you seen any interviews with him? I understand what you mean about not saying that people are inspirational just for living as they are, but he was pretty extraordinary.

Thinking about the fact that some people (not this forum) are the spelling police, or act like it

Probably get my arse kicked somewhere else cause I spelled a word wrong

depression turns randomly into irrational fear/severe panic attacks (90% of times happens during sleep and when i first wake up).

the worst part is being aware there's no reason for all that fear. a fear like going through death , but i have no control over my body/mind that keeps experiencing the dread/absorbing too much fear/misery

the fridge doesn't even want to work after cleaning it with water and soap.
i suppose i waited enough for water to dry since i plugged it in right after cleaning it and it didn't work. that was a few hours ago. now i'm sure water dried but still doesn't work. the lamp doesn't even *insert awkward crickets sound effect here*

I think that like Goggins the root of a lot of my issues is that I am born a loser.

But he also spent the whole of his life soiled in his own shit. Maybe the horror and absurdity of a man wasting away in a metal can is too much to contend with.
Well, I agree about how it's a negative that people search for hallmarkisms just to fabricate a faux "we can all do this if we tried!" storyline. But I do think there's inspirational elements to this story. Yes it's true that he spent an element of his life "soiled in his own shit". That's a fact, it happened and no one (least of all the protagonist) can change that. What impresses me is how he recognised that he had limited options but choose to take the positive path of doing what he could. My guess is that people would have recognised that and given back appreciation and warmth which I imagine would've brought him some comfort. The alternative would've been to become a bitter patient with a view of "I can't do anything for myself. But I expect you to provide all that I need". That's where I see inspiration; having the strength of mind to carve some positives from an impossible situation

I think this is the crux of it; I think you're referring to the absurdity of artificially keeping someone alive who on the face of it doesn't have much to offer society. He had a good relationship with his brother from what I understand so obviously offered something.

"His brother, Philip Alexander, remembered him as a "welcoming, warm person", with a "big smile" that instantly put people at ease. "He was just a normal brother to me. We fought, we played, we loved, we partied, we went to concerts together - he was just a normal brother, I never thought about it," he told the BBC."

He taught himself some mad "frog breathing" technique which allowed him to be out of the lung for up to 16 hours a day.

^ And that's the very ableist attitude that society does still have where they question "keeping someone alive" if they "don't have anything to offer"

When like you say, look below the surface a bit and there is a lot going for him.

Sometimes doing something different can stop excessive mentation,
I used to try a meditation technique which worked well for stopping excessive mental activity,
I think the idea was just to stare at some point, but do it wholeheartedly with all your might,
Tears come, and it's probably better to have been physically active before it, but it definitely seemed to disconnect your inner heart-self from the over-thinking surface part of you, as it were,
I definitely used to calm down so much when this disconnect happened,
You kind of drop down into your heart, and everything calms down, I think it empowers you a bit when thoughts lose their grip and lose their significance as a result.

My sinuses are still playing up. First it was my nose, forehead and cheeks. Then it went to my ears (in addition). Now it's gone to my teeth. This has been going on for a month now. The painful pressure has gone from my face, but when I massage my face I can feel the swollen lymph nodes. The nurse practitioner thinks I need to go to a specialist but I don't actually think I can cope with an endoscope shoved up my nose. I'll panic. Why is everything so invasive and uncomfortable? I wonder what they can do for people like me who won't physically be able to sit still.

glad i found another 80's thing i can sleep while listening to ,esp since i found the full episodes on YouTube. i watched it as a kid in the 90's though

i remember there was a scene that almost used to give me nightmares (don't know which episode) when the criminal put the mouth taping? on the woman's mouth and threw her in a van and the girl saw him. it was nothing scary by today's standards, or perhaps i was really young. i remember the music was scary too.

the entire story about a little girl whose parents had to travel for 6 months so she spent those 6 months with her grandfather who never cared about anything except for his studies/academic career and she totally changed his personality for the better, he started to be more social, etcc

I wish I'd just done what I wanted in life. People who intuitively do what's best for themselves without caring a jot don't know how lucky they are. They think they know, but they can't know. I know.

I’m thinking I haven’t paid for my Apple music last month. I’m switching to YouTube premium as music is also included. It’s not that I find YouTube better but if I get music with the huge YouTube content available it seems to make the most sense money wise. That said it works be nice if streaming services allowed you to port or somewhat sync your data to other streaming services instead of having to build your music library from zero again.

I also think subconsciously I hate how Apple taps you into its ecosystem. Because it stores a lot of your data and sometimes the apps like photos, even Apple Music recently, don’t work well on my pc it feels like it would be hard to stop using the iPhone. With something like Google photos it would work seamlessly on all devices.

i am not seeing myself growing mentally compared to what i was ten years younger, i'm not sure if it's actually the other way around, but general speaking, I'm not sure if people lose intellectual abilities as they age. pretty much every mathematician, physicist, philosophical writer achieved their peak works in their late 20's, early 30

ignore the entire video especially if you are not interested in such dumb thing, just the first 2 seconds, exactly the first 2 seconds and then close it, look at how badass this woman walks

she should do action movies

How I really, really should go to the dentist. I have a cavity that's a ticking time bomb of MEGAPAIN. A big part of what's stopping me though is shame, for letting my teeth get so bad (again. The last time I went, many years ago, I had to have two pulled out). I'll almost certainly have to pay for private treatment, so I'm not sure why I think they'd be judgemental, rather than happy to see so much they can charge for.

^ Have you searched to see if there are any dentists taking on NHS patients in your area? Atleast if you go to them you sort of have the excuse of not previously being able to go because you didn't have a dentist.

If I decide to end my uni break or study again I feel like I would rather do an online degree. I know it's not by any means easier, might actually be harder to stay motivated, but I feel like sometimes I learn better alone because when I usually work with others it's like sometimes my work feel sabotaged if others act like I can't do a good job and then the social difficulties can also be a distraction.

I haven't checked I just sort of assumed that finding one would be like striking gold, and I'm not that lucky. If I asked, they'd gather all the staff (and patients) to point and laugh at me.
