Re: Looking for a new car
Sorry I should have been more specific.
You're looking for something from 1.1 to 1.6, new or used? Also when you say upgrade do you just mean newer or higher spec? |

I've been looking at some Japanese cars as a couple of friends have em & from what they say they never go wrong but I like fords because you can always get parts should something go wrong. I had a 06 fiesta when my old saxo was being repaired (some dumb ass backed into me lol) so they give me a courtesy car for 2 weeks & I loved it. |

Re: Looking for a new car
What are you looking for in a car. What is it about the fiesta that apealed to you. Image, looks, performance, handling, economy? You won't be disapointed with a current Fiesta anyway.

I do travel a bit, with working in Manchester I travel from Tameide normally every day unless I can get work done from home, normally do about 50-80miles a week (inc jobs, going out, cinema etc etc). Performance, I like the zetecs, love the way they drive. |

Re: Looking for a new car
If you have a Ford, something will go wrong, so it's definitely important you can get parts for it. That's my opinion anyway
Japanese cars are generally 1st class for reliability and build quality. Not always the most characteristic, but if you want something sturdy then look no further. Parts really aren't difficult to come by, you're not talking about a 67' Chevy or something. German cars, in my view, fit somewhere between Japanese and British, reliability, charisma, expensive. But will hold their value well. All personal preference at the end of the day. I would never pay good money for a Ford though. I think the whole 'parts' issue probably came about during the 80's when a car consisted of an engine, carburettor and spark plugs and you would fix it yourself (quite regularly since they always broke down). We live in the 21st century now though with computerized engines, Japanese cars that are made in England and cheap as chips global importation. And if you want performance, think about getting a turbo diesel. |

Other cars you might consider: Renault Clio. Rover 25. 04/05 Peugeot 206. Astra. Seat Ibiza. Skoda Fabia. Toyota Yaris. Honda Civic. Nissan Micra/Almera Fiat Panda. Mazda 323. Kia Ceed (Longest Warrenty you'll find I think). |

Re: Looking for a new car
A Mini cooper will be much more expensive to buy and insure. You need to set a buget.

Second hand, you can get anything for that price.*
* Within reason. Dreams of a DB9 I suspect would be unrealistic. |

Re: Looking for a new car
Or, he could go to a local salvage dealer and pick up a mint car for a cheap-ish price. Yeah, they'll need some work done on them, but it'll still work out cheaper than buying new or used.
'Tis what I'm doing for my next car. |

Re: Looking for a new car
Get a VW Polo. Cheap to maintain, cheap to insure, fairly comfortable, good economy. The engines are bullet proof. I have a Polo shed that's done 106,000 miles - still going strong.
I had a Civic - depending on what model you get, it won't be particularly cheap to insure (if it's a 1.6 vtec) for a 21 year old. Jap parts can be quite pricey but they don't tend to go wrong. My mum has a K reg 1.5 LSI shed that's done well over 150,000 miles and is still going. Don't buy anything french. Don't buy a rover with a K series engine - the head gasket will fail - they always do. Doesn't matter what car it's in Caterham, lotus, Rover, you will get an HGF sooner or later. Fiat Punto's are supposed to be alright though - surprising considering they're italian. |

At last, a quality vehicle Reminds me of The Comic Strip Presents: Mr Jolly Lives Next Door, with Rick Mayall and Ade Edmonson thrashing around Marble Arch in a Rascal with Tom Jones playing in the background - classic |
