when i lost the plot the visiting doc gave me 8 x 5mg ones she said to take one if i felt anxious, i took the lot in one go, didn't really have much effect to be honest but i did sleep well that night. i don't think 2mg would sedate a budgy.

Exactly, I got 5mg tablets from my GP awhile ago, and one of them was pretty pointless. As was taking two.

2mg worked fine for me, I only got 7 when I first went on SSRIs but they def helped me feel relaxed, it's kinda like a warm blanket. Never got prescribed more after that though.

They didn't really work for me, just felt like I was a bit tipsy, hard to concentrate on things; which actually made me feel more nervous because I was paranoid about it!

I get 28 x 2mg on a recurring prescription, have to take three or more to have an effect. Which even then is quite subtle, like it's easier to breathe and just sit in my own skin for a while.

I took them about 2.5 years ago, was my 3rd different type of medication. They gave me the same feeling I have after a few drinks & I noticed I felt more relaxed & I'd have a bit more confidence.

Because valium is a trade mark, while diazepam is the chemical stuff. It has different brand names, but the wording diazepan isn't allowed to change, and has to be stated (so we know what chemical compond is being talked about etc)

There's so much Stigma in the medical profession now that they prescribe silly small doses. They were once often prescribed alongside amphetamines, commonly known together as uppers and downers. A wonder drug at the time that turned out to be very addictive.

So now Doctors get their arses kicked for prescribing too much, yet I see people going through horrible side effects with SSRIs, which are handed out like sweets.

Anyway, even in higher doses, Valium is a mild sedative. So it makes you feel more chilled, maybe a little woozy, like a kinda drunk feeling. But it really is mild, and in normal doses can be difficult to notice.

It is annoying with Benzos, as when taken for their intended purpose - i.e. as and when needed - you generally won't suffer any negative side affects. And they're very useful for certain situations. Work a treat in the dentist's chair

But if you can get them at all now, it's in so small doses that you might as well have a Vitamin pill instead. And they wonder why there's such a roaring trade on the internet.

and why doesn't my internet spell checker recognise the word internet?

Seven years ago, my (inconveniently now-retired) genial old doctor prescribed me 28 x .5mg of Xanax per month. I ceased taking them (without any difficulty) around six months later. No bad side effects. No harm done. More recently, I've known of doctors prescribing 7 x .25mg and advising the patient to "take no more than half a tablet at a time". I mean, Jesus...
The drug companies did a bit of creative accounting with SSRIs (not making public negative trial results etc.) which hid the fact that SSRIs have only been proved usefull for people with severe depression. For everyone else its probably just a placebo.

With regards to diazapam you have to look at it from the doctors point of view. If he prescribes it for SA or AVP then there is a risk of addiction which will mean much more work and trouble for him or her. Not prescibing will mean the patient will just go away and probably not bother them too much.

They either knock me out and send me to sleep or they make me hallucinate. I was taking high doses though.
