Ah, that sucks. Was that because you isolated ? Please, feel free to ignore this if it is too personal.
Yeah when I look back it wasn't great in many ways but my internal world was in harmony. It didn't cause me to feel 'split' or discombobulated. All the cogs were aligned, and in the places they ought to be. I had an inner strength- a youthful vivacity. Enough of an edge to get through difficulty. To face adversity. I felt intact, I felt a warm core but now that all seems alien. Its what other people have which when I watch, I feel that contrast, what they have, what I used to have to this where something fundamental about me is missing- is not quite right. And I'll never get it back.

^ Well, it was a lot of things at once, my mental health got gradually worse and I had very bad SA and developed depression and eating disorders, but I didn't actually know that so I just thought I was useless and stupid! And yes I was very isolated because I just couldn't communicate or socialise and then there were lots of family disfunction going on....it was just bad. But then I found SAUK when I was 18

I don't really know much about your life. You have a partner don't you, if I remember rightly? Would you say you live a happy existence now?

^ And you are clearly not thick at all. Proper diagnosis and support for things does help because otherwise people just end up thinking things are their own fault.
I do have a partner, yes I am so much happier now, especially in the last year or two I would say.

Yeah, still waiting for my assessments for ASD and ADHD, however long they will take. Definitely not fit to go back to work anytime soon.

Sertraline doesn't seem to help like, feel drained all the time.

In Search Of Lost Time runs to 7 volumes and I've only read one and a half of them, but your comment reminded me of the famous episode when the author tastes a madelaine cake and it takes him on a journey down memory lane. Your post seemed to describe a similar 'Proustian moment'.

I think the audiobooks, or some of them, are available on youtube. I would try those first before spending any cash.

You could try talking to your doctor about trying a different antidepressant maybe.

Wondering why spanish flu killed more people than the first world war. I just hope modern medicine improved things if this virus turns out to be as dangerous. I guess this is an advantage to not mixing with others much.

^ Possibly lack of modern medical care, and also people who couldn't afford it couldn't see a doctor at all in those days. It's mostly more vulnerable people who are worst affected from these illnesses though, the elderly and people with serious medical conditions already. So we should really be worrying more about those people.

^ not Spanish flu, that killed mostly otherwise-healthy people because it turned their immune system against them.

Death rate of the corona virus is about 1-2%, but the flu kills more each year (although we have a vaccine). It all depends how contagious it is, in the days of spanish flu they might not have had such a great understanding of how it spreads also. Wikipedia says "The World Health Organization estimates that 2–3% of those who were infected died (case-fatality ratio)." but it ended up infecting 27% of the world population.

Basically it's like a really bad flu with no vaccine, people that die often have pre-existing conditions or it triggers a heart attack or stroke. The immune system can just give up in elderly people though.

I think the last time I enquired about it was in December before I was in the MH unit. I was told there was quite a waiting list. I thinking I was around 30th on the list. That was for ADHD, the Autism one could be more than a year to wait.

Yeah, I will give it a month and then make an appointment and let the doctor know how it is affecting me.

What stopped you from getting through the rest of it? Did you not enjoy it?

I don't think I would be able to maintain focus if I listened to it on audio. I will give it a go like.

Yes, it's very enjoyable once you get going, but Proust demands a certain amount of concentration and I inevitably got sidetracked. Plus it is incredibly long (4215 pages according to google). I always intended to pick up Proust again at some point but I never have. Maybe one day.

Ah, well 30th on the list isn't too bad! Hope it isn't too much longer.

^ Of course you are good enough for someone and hopefully they will be deserving of you. If that is you in your profile picture you are a nice looking young man, you are obviously kind and caring and you've shown a witty sense of humour in your posts even when you've been feeling incredibly low. What's not to like?

Was he behaving in a good strange way, such as when a loved one who might normally take you for granted starts treating you with more care and consideration? Don't know if I've made much sense there

I have to admit, i'm not a panic buying sort but I have been wondering what would happen to me if I had to self isolate. I'd have no one to help me out. I'd rather die of the virus than stave to death! How long have ppl had to self isolate?

^^ I'm assuming that you can still order a supermarket shopping delivery online if you're self isolating? I was thinking people could just put a note on it to ask that it all be left on the doorstep so that they don't have to actually have any contact with the delivery driver!

Well if I do have to self-immolate then I guess it's for the good of society...
Wait, isolate? I'm already isolated enough. You want me to make things worse?
How about I just stick a goldfish bowl on my head and wear oven gloves? It does make typing harder.

Yeah it does say that on the NHS website. Just hope there's not a shortage of delivery drivers self isolating (Oh I do so love to catastrophise )
